Bitter Rockets fans took to Yelp to undermine Ayesha Curry's restaurant, International Smoke, before the Houston location even opened.
Curry's husband, Stephen, was an instrumental part of the Warriors' win over the Rockets in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, ending the Rockets' season in heartbreak. The Warriors would go on to win their third championship in four years after defeating the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.
So, it would seem only natural that Rockets fans would take their anger out on a restaurant brazenly prepared to encroach on Houstonians' hallowed turf of basketball and barbecue.
"Seriously, why would you go here. There are a million great BBQ places in Houston which do not require you to sell your soul. Go Rockets!" one reviewer said.
"Terrible food.. keep your burnt bbq in California! This is H-Town.. They didn't even have moist brisket! Waited 35 mins for water and it tasted like Seth Curry tears! Will never be back! Can't support this place .. Harden MVP," another said.
Many of the one-star reviews are obscene, while others focus on Kevin Durant-related jokes. Others chose to mock the Warriors blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals.
"Warriors blew a 3-1 lead and that's just the facts. Avoid at all costs or you too will be cursed with a big ego and the obligation to become a Warriors bandwagon fan," a review said.
Warriors fans sought to combat the one-star reviews with a bombardment of five-star reviews of their own.
"attn salty rockets fans. have u no shame? (sic) blame your team 0 for 27 shooting in game 7 and choking away a 3-2 lead. not this establishment by which hasn't even opened. i'd say you're above this petty squabbling but you've proven me wrong. stay classy Houston. go dubs!" a five-star review said.
International Smoke will open its Houston location July 5.
