I get that Russ is not the best "asset" in the world, but that seems like a really poor return given the invest made to get him.

Hopefully Wall magically returns to peak form, but I'm more worried he will get another leg injury that ends his career before he actually plays for us.

If Wall comes back as 90% as good as he used to be, it will be a fantastic trade.

The Lakers showing that the best way to defend Russ was to give him space and let him shoot or other wise make decisions on his own tanked Russ' trade value.

I'm glad we were able to hit the eject button quickly on Russ. For all the praise I have heaped on Morey over the years he got the Paul-Russ flip terribly wrong.

Couple quick thoughts:

I don't like the trade for the Rockets. Unfortunately, the NBA has a trend that's developed where if a star wants out, FO is put in a really tough position. Kyrie, Kawhi, AD, etc.

The biggest unknown right now is John Wall's ability. I believe that health-wise, he is 100%. He had two seasons off, but there is no way to tell how he will come back and play in a full 82 game season. (Don't think the league is doing 82 games this year?)

Before injury, Wall was ultra talented but one of his best abilities was quick first step and penetrating to the basket. An Achilles tear and two years later and that quick first step may be gone. We may see flashes of health and quickness in a few pickup games but the grind of a full NBA season will be hard for a guy who hasn't played a full season in years.

I get Russ wanted out and I see the frustration but he was under contract. Russ may have frustrated but he is not the type of guy to show up to opening night and not give a damn, he played with heart and I appreciated that. I didn't love his game (thought dantoni misued him a lot) but he was healthy whereas Wall is an unknown. That to me was advantage Russ.

One of Wall's biggest downfalls outside of his bum leg was his attitude and motor in Washington. The wizards are well known across the league to have bad management and a culture of losing. I think Wall fell victim to that and was complacent in losses and seasons without sniffing the playoffs. (Similar to Dwight Howard in Houston laughing and having a grand ole time after losses). He needs to have a mentality change and really come in hungry to win.

I think this trade was very high risk, semi-high reward. Wall could very well come back and look like the pre-injury Wall and help the team to a playoff run. I hope so.

Just my two cents, I'm gonna root for him and the team but my instant reaction is I'm not fan. I hope I'm proved wrong.

Yeah...a team that packed up their bags and left for Nashville.

This trade reminds me of the time Derrick Coleman got traded for Shawn Bradley. Both sides were in disbelief that the other side was willing to take their overrated POS and similarly very nervous about the overrated POS they were getting back. And everyone's feelings were 100% correct.

I think we are all just waiting to see what Wall looks like when he gets on the floor. If he is healthy I think we won this trade, especially with the fact that Russ wanted out, but that is still up in the air until we see it happen.

Even if Wall isn't healthy, if you want to contend you take this crapshoot every single time.

Russ can't be on the floor in the playoffs. The shooting and shot selection are abysmally bad. Nor can he settle into any kind of role playing role because his game is all athleticism and effort; which is great for meaningless January games when everyone else is half assing it

If you want to argue that the Rockets shouldn't try to contend, that's fair. But I think they see themselves as contenders for the TITLE (not merely for the playoffs) which is why they got Wood.
