No, news sources, credible ones like ABC, used to have journalistic standards that required multiple credible sources to go forward with a story and to get to print/on the air you had to go through multiple layers of checks to spread that information. Now that power presents itself between a persons brain and a person's thumbs.

You were 10, 11 years old when Twitter launched? You don't remember. News was already going down hill when Twitter launched, but before 24 hour news networks it had credibility and standards, ever since then it has gone downhill, and Twitter is an accelerant for the good and the bad.

I think I've heard reporters over the years say that you generally needed at least 3 credible sources before you could run a story. Now they just run it and issue retractions if they're wrong.
