The Kings traded the Spurs 2027 1st to OKC for the 24th pick, which they used on Nique Clifford. I think that was a good move for Sacramento.

Ooof. I don't like OKC having our pick. Feels like a display of dominance from Presti.
When Trae Young gets hurt and we land AJ Dybantsa or Cameron Boozer to be our PF, Presti will regret that bigly.

If you're Atlanta, and this nightmare scenario plays out, do you just fold it in and move to Seattle or something?

Not out of the question that we land #1 with their pick and they land #2 because the Pelicans gave up an unprotected first next year to draft a fat guy with motivation issues to pair with Zion in New Orleans.

Something interesting: Minnesota took Beringer at 17 when they desperately need a PG. They have Naz Reid and Julius Randle opting out and they have 2nd apron issues. With Rudy and Beringer, do they keep both Randle and Reid? They also have NAW as a FA.

S&T for Reid? He's about to get a lot of dough though.

I think he is worth in the 24-28M/year range. Similar to DeMar, Bridges, Murphy, McDaniels, Collins, and Devin. He doesn't rebound well, his defense is not super great, and I don't think he is a 30mpg guy. But I think he fits for us really well.

A deal with us and them is also weird, because we want to move Devin or Keldon and they wouldnt' want either. Have to add at first to Keldon, but if they would do Naz for Barnes+Blake, is that something we do?

Yeah you're probably right. Barnes is really one of the only veterans and guys on the team that really knows how to play team basketball. You probably want him to stay integrated with this group at least another season.

I just think the Spurs need more than a Kornet/Looney/Yabusele down low. Wemby has told the FO that he wants to play less 5 so just trying to think outside the box on who else could realistically be had that is of legitimate starting caliber. Brook Lopez is probably the easy answer here but not sure there's reciprocal interest.
Don't the Blazers have like 5 centers now? No idea on the cap math, but Robert Williams III could give us decent regular season minutes as a big body to protect Wemby.

Obviously some injury history there but we don't need him playing full time starter minutes.

Gafford also seems like to be moved. There's going to be a lot of suitors there. Doubtful we can make that one happen.

Rob has played 61 games over the last 3 seasons. I think his knees are cooked. You could trade Rob into the MLE for free, but I wouldn't. You could do Keldon for Rob, but they wouldn't do that.

Gafford apparently wants to start somewhere, so that isn't here.

Kornet and Goga are my top two options right now.

https://craftednba.com/players/goga-bitadze

Goga could be there b/c Orlando has cap issues and he can be traded into our MLE and still leave us about 5M left over on it.

Looks like Kings protected the pick top 16, so if we had something catastrophic happen, Presti only gets a couple seconds.

I assume you're working under the assumption that Barnes would continue to start and we would just get Kornet to backup Wemby?
Guitarsoup

I think you play Kornet+Wemby in situations where you need double big (like vs Sengun+Adams or Hartenstein+Chet or Jokic+Gordon since you can shade off Gordon)

But more often than not, you use Kornet when Wemby isn't in.

I really want to keep Barnes as long as possible and we use him as a starter now for his shooting, but ideally we can upgrade him and use him as a backup/vet leader. But if we can land someone that's a clear upgrade, then we make the move.

Also it is objectively an awful awful trade.

There are reports that the Spurs would have done this trade for 14 if the Hawks didn't take it. Blazers turned it down.

I saw that on reddit, but the guy saying that has 400 followers.

I think we are pretty thrilled landing CB.

Supposedly the Blazers turned the deal down at 11 because they thought Minnesota was taking Yang at 17. Instead, the Blazers got a 2028 Orlando 1st, 2 seconds and Yi Jianlian 30 spots too early.

Thank you for sucking, Blazers. You should have just taken Carter Bryant and had a 3-man forward rotation of Deni, Camara, and Carter.

Oh yea. I'm really excited to get CB. He gives us immediate defense and shooting (assuming he cracks the rotation). Then his athleticism also brings a wrinkle we don't really have.

A few guys on Reddit have dragged me for saying I think he gets in the 20-25mpg range next year, but I think he will. Going to take minutes from Keldon and Julian immediately. I think Barnes' minutes will continue to drop a little (MPG ha dropped for 5 straight years for him.) I also think Harper will be in the 25-28mpg range. I think Sochan stays around 25mpg unless he learns to shoot.

If Bryant can be a disciplined defender, I think he will get minutes. Going to definitely be some growing pains though.

I'm not sure Bryant gets 20-25 from the getgo but they will bring him along slowly. He didn't even average 20 in college. I think he needs some time but will be there before the season is over.

Boo. Come on Spurs.

[Charania] The Brooklyn Nets are trading the No. 36 pick in tonight's NBA Draft to the Phoenix Suns for two future second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. Suns now own Nos. 36, 52 and 59.

He was at 19.3 and they had 5 juniors and seniors playing above him.

He played increasingly more minutes as the season went on and played 23mpg in the last 17 games and hit 39% of his threes and had 2 stocks per game - and those were the end of conference, conference tourney and NCAA tourney games.

His first 9 games, he averaged just 14 minutes and it took some adjusting. Then the next 10 games, he was up to 17mpg and started shooting well. Final 17 games he was at 23mpg. His last 6 games were all tournament games and he averaged 23mpg and shot 46% from three.

Took some adjusting like many freshman, but as the season progressed, he clearly did as well and he was stealing minutes from juniors and seniors on a very good sweet 16 team that ultimately lost to Duke (3 top ten picks.)

Yeah, I've looked through his game log. I feel like that is what will happen at this level too. There will be an adjustment period and he will eventually get more time.

Because there's three kids who would be good backup bigs still on the board. At a low cost of entry.

I also think the Spurs will just prioritize experience for their core and he is safely the core.

We have 96 forward minutes.

Barnes 25
Sochan 25
Bryant 22
Julian/Keldon/Devin 24

What a clown.

This is his lede on Harper:

Quote:

If Cooper Flagg had never reclassified, Harper would be the consensus top pick with star upside because he's a big-bodied lefty combo guard who has a high floor with the skill, poise and playmaking instincts to dictate the game at his pace.

OK... so that's a B? The guy that should be the consensus #1 pick going to the Spurs at #2?

O'Connor is a hack. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a biased spurs fan. That dude just listens to other people's podcasts and just regurgitates what they say. Then he adds some hot takes that are terrible.

To be fair to KOC, he's been in the camp of not liking the fit with Fox and Castle from the get go. Doesn't make him right, but he's been consistent with that line of thinking.

That's fine, but BPA is BPA. If he thinks that Bagley was the right choice because Luka and Fox was a clunky fit, then his perspective makes sense. Golden State doesn't need a guard, they need a big, so go with James Wiseman.

But we know it takes 2-4 years for a PG to really develop and the chance for lefty Harper to develop next to veteran lefty Fox when both are driving PGs is such an insanely great benefit to Harper.

We also know that having multiple high level creators that create rim pressure is the key to winning right now. Just look at OKC and Indiana. Or Dallas and Boston last year.
