Great night to be at the juice box (aside from marisnick's terrible walk up song). Pretty good crowd, Folty and Feldman both dealing, and the bats being put to good use. But more than anything, beating the **** out of the rangers. TD4W

I wish they would just do away with that new rule. It's part of the game

Interesting. From mlbtraderumors.com

quote:
Could Jeff Luhnow’s job actually be in jeopardy? Rosenthal isn’t sure, though he notes that “internal tension seems unavoidable” in Houston. The Astros have seen little improvement on the field this season and Luhnow’s front office was widely criticized for its handling of the Brady Aiken negotiations.

Of course there's gonna be tons of internal tension when you're consistently one of the worst, if not the worst team in baseball. Plus, the whole Aiken situation obviously didn't help his case. And as of right now, Marisnick has been flat out terrible, while Kiké and Cosart were showing tons of promise. I don't think he's going anywhere unless things get worse, but they're definitely not happy right now

Kiké Hernandez has already had the best part of his career. he got hot for a couple months on one of the worst rosters in baseball...enough for another team to think he might be worth it to have him as a scrub player on the major league bench. He was not a piece of the Astros puzzle.

Actually it looks like his stint doing that is already over. He went 0-7 and is already back in AAA.

Ok sure. Kiké was probably never going to be an every day starter, but Cosart proved he could be a huge part of our starting rotation. I'll admit, I don't know much about the trade, but Marisnick has been flat out trash

Getting rid of Luhnow would be a HUGE mistake. They've already invested 3 years into his strategy. It would be starting over practically.

Depending on where you look Colin Moran and Marisnick were the Marlins 2nd & 3rd rated prospects. Cosart was good, but I think we need to judge this trade 2-3 years aodwn the line. That's what happens when you trade big leaguers for minor leaguers.

I disagree. He's already gutted the system and loaded up on prospects. With the second pick of the draft next year, plus a top 5 pick, depending on where we finish, our farm system should be good enough to quit finishing worst in the league for a while. He really set me off when he traded Cosart. It was my understanding that we were kind of done with the gutting the system for prospects, but it appears that's what he did again.

I'm not ready to give up on Marisnick yet, but I definitely haven't been happy with what I've seen so far

Maris had a pretty decent weekend against the Rangers. I'm just tired of rebuilding.

But did the Marlins surrender too much in sending outfielder Jake Marisnick, minor-league third baseman Colin Moran (the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft) and its Competitive Balance pick (No. 31 overall) in next summer’s draft?

ESPN baseball analyst Keith Law thought so.

“The Astros absolutely cleaned up here, especially if, as I suspect, they wanted to rid themselves of Cosart for character reasons in addition to the gap between his talent and his performance,” Law wrote in a Baseball Insider piece for ESPN.com.

I've still been confused by the whole character issue thing. Before he was traded, the only thing going on was one or more Astros were unhappy with Appel being moved up. Luhnow had said he wouldn't trade Cosart unless he felt he was getting a great deal. No indication he wanted him gone. Then right after he was traded, it was rumored to be Cosart who was anonymously speaking his mind to the media about it. I'd be a little surprised if they wanted him out after just 1 incident. Makes me wonder if he was letting the front office know that he thought they were low balling Aiken. I still don't get why Luhnow said he wouldn't trade him unless he got the right deal if he wasn't happy with Cosart's character

What did you think Luhnow would publicly say? "We want this guy gone, he's a cancer!"? He was posturing. There have been rumors about his immaturity for a while now, and the latest smoke was he was one of the players *****ing and moaning about Appel. Like Law said, they were having problems with him, his performance was yet to catch up to his talent, and Luhnow felt he had an opportunity to cash in on him while other teams still viewed him as a good asset. You're overblowing this if you think Luhnow is just gutting the team for prospects. If they viewed Cosart as a top of the rotation guy, they wouldn't have traded him. But I think they viewed him as an inconsistent pitcher that became more of a headache than he was worth on the field.

Cosart was a serviceable #3/4 MLB starter. All kinds of rumors he was a clubhouse lawyer.

Jury is out on the trade but we got a lot of value. Marisneck is not "garbage", you keep saying that but it's not true. Dude has wheels and is very good on defense. His stick is the question mark. He's very young, so we'll see.

Was Cosart the one who had those "offensive" tweets a while back?
