If Crawfish Boxes really wanted to yank people's chain they should have made up a story about the CSN situation being resolved so the Astros will be on TV tonight.

Last year I started an Astros minor league thread. This year I'm going to post all my minor league stuff in the main thread.

Greg Rajan tweeted out the Corpus Christi Hooks roster. This is the group I am so fired up about. Last year I made a post about the "waves of talent" headed to the Astros.

Last years AA team kind of a stars and scrubs team. This team has true prospects at every position. Here's the roster with my comments.


C Heineman, Garcia, Cokinos

This is a stud group.

Heineman is a really good receiver who brings a great bat to the table also. Very good catching prospect.

Cokinos is not a very good defensive catcher at all, but he flat rakes at the plate. His ultimate destination if 1B/DH.

Garcia is a fine defensive catcher who can hit a little.

These guys all have great walk to strikeout ratios.



IF Hernandez, Mier, Fontana, Duffy, Sclafani

Weakest Group in my opinion.

Hernandez is organizational depth.

Mier is repeating the level, he's sadly becoming org depth also. Time is running out.

Duffy is old for the level but he was the 2nd best offensive player in the Cal League last year. He's intriguing.

Sclafani is a very intriguing prospect. Plays multiple IF positions and did nothing but produce at the plate. I'm worried he was helped extremely Lancaster's ballpark. He's an Ivy League graduate.


OF Aplin, DDJ, Heras, Tucker, Epps

This is another stud group.

Aplin is considered one of the best defensive CFers in the organization. He's no slouch at the plate. Has a great K:BB ratio.

DDJ CAN be one of the best defensive CFers in the organization also. He has the tools to be a very productive hitter and steal as many bases as just about anyone in the game.

With Aplin and DDJ in 2 of the outfield spots, I don't see many balls hitting the ground.

Tucker is one of my favorite "under the radar" prospects. He's done nothing but hit the ball, and his outfield defense isn't horrible either. I suspect he'll play LF and some DH/1B with DDJ and Aplin in CF and RF.

Heras is one of the Mexican players signed last year. Intriguing prospect that there isn't much out there about.

Epps is organizational depth.

RHP West, Rodgers, Seaton, Heidenreich, Robinson, De Leon, Jankowski, Ballew

LHP Cruz, Rollins, Shirley, Cain, Geith,Sogard

West is one of the most underrated pitchers in the system.

Rodgers has back of the rotation MLB potential written all over him.

Cruz is interesting. One of the better performers in the system last year.

Rollins is another that is intriguing. He's a Carthage boy.



This roster is awesome.







I plan to catch a game when they come to Frisco.

I really wish Correa was up with that group. With that being said, I think we need our own thread for the minors because it will become too difficult to navigate the bs on the main thread.

My opening day thoughts:
How many times will Carter strikeout this season.. More or less than last year? Im hoping he can find a way to put the ball in play more.
I really hope we don't trade Castro at the deadline to a team who needs him more. Guy can be our catcher for years to come. With that said, if Carter doesn't produce Id like to see Castro as DH more often to save his knees a bit.
Villar needs to improve in the field and at the plate. Which I expect him to accomplish.
Looking forward to watching Cosart this year.
Im still not sold on Altuve batting third. Id like to see Fowler Altuve Castro Grossman(EDIT:No.. Fowler/Grossman, Altuve, Castro, Carter)
Im gonna go out on a limb and say we get 2 to the all star game this year. Altuve/Grossman/Castro 2 of those.
I really don't think we'll be anywhere near as bad as last year.. 73 wins is my prediction. The bullpen is much improved and that was horrific. It was the cause for at least 20-30 losses last year.

Oh oops definitely did not mean to put Grossman at cleanup wasn't thinking straight. I really really don't like Carter batting cleanup but thats where he belongs in this lineup. Maybe Altuve will end up being a good 3 hole hitter… But he's the perfect 2 and Castro would ideally be 3. Grossman leadoff? Fowler drops to 6? I haven't watched a lot of Fowler so not sure what to expect from him, need to go check his numbers

Springer. That's your future clean up. Hopefully this year.

I just don't see this team being that much better than last year. Yeah the bullpen is better but our rotation is facking horrible.

Cosart is good, but that's it for the rotation unless Feldman finds some shades of his former self. Our bullpen blew 29 saves last year. That doesn't count any games that were tied for the bullpen and we ended up losing. Considering how terrible our team was last year, that 29 is huge and tied for the league lead. I wouldn't be surprised to have that be about 10 less this year (middle of the road or so) That right there is a huge improvement. Are we a playoff team? Hell no, but I think you will see a difference in the record between last year's squad and this one. The rotation last year wasn't exactly a shining example of great pitching.

I think Cosart has a good year and Harrell has a good turnaround from last year. I haven't been impressed with Feldman, but I know he has the ability.

Rotation can't be much worse than last year. Harrell was a non factor all year, we traded Bud and the others are pretty much the same. Cosart should be decent if he can throw strikes. Hopefully he will continue to do so.

I think it'll balance out to only about 10 more wins.

We still lose 100.

So who will be the Astros lone All-Star representative this year?
