Short of Mitch just being truly awful in the field, which I don't see how he could do worse, I agree. Fielder has been less than stellar there and last night was a mental mistake. I can live with physical mistakes but that was just plain awful. If that toss hadn't gotten by Murphy it was still an awful decision. He had absolutely no chance of making that play.

I only saw the play once so I could be completely wrong, but it looked to me like Rosin just stopped running towards first because of his frustration over not being able to throw strikes to two people trying to give themselves up which made a not great and rushed throw from Fielder (which could have been catchable) look even worse than it was.

The real problem with the game the way I saw it was the Rangers inability to capitalize in key situation along with a few VERY questionable decisions by Ron, mostly...

1)Runners at 2nd and 3rd in a one run game in the 7th inning and you let Donnie Murphy and J.P. bat there? WTH wouldn't you pinch hit in that situation with Choice?

2) Rosin struggled to get out of 7th inning without allowing a run to score and having thrown close to 25 pitches (if I remember correctly). The dude is only pitching in his 3rd game (I think) ever above double A AND pitching in historic Fenway park against the reigning WS champions. Why was he even in there in the 8th inning when you are still only down by 1. Those aren't innings just to eat at that point - especially with the way this team has started off the season fighting and clawing at games through the 9th. Hell, the Rangers didn't even have anyone warming up when that inning started so when he couldn't throw a strike to the guys attempting to bunt, there wasn't even an option except letting the 22 year old kid "work through" it which ultimately sealed the loss.

Fielder and Murphy didn't communicate well on the bunt which is what caused the confusion (it wasn't Rosin's ball). But once Fielder committed to it, he could have made the play.

The bobble was the first error - after that they were not going to get the out. He compounded it by then rushing it and throwing it away.

Neither aspect was Rosin's fault.

Anyone know why the early start time tonight?

I can see why this sucks for Ranger fans, but, being on the East Coast, I love it!

I don't mind it. Got it recording and I'll get to fast forward through all the commercials.

Yea, I said I only saw it once so I could be completely wrong. What I thought I saw was when the bunt first landed, Rosin looked like he hesitated going to cover first for a minute bc he was frustrated, then remembered he needed to get there and started halfheartedly running that way and then pulled up before getting to the base. (A mistake that would not at all be out of character for a guy with so little experience who was struggling to throw strikes in a close game in Fenway)

I'm not giving Fielder a pass at all even if that was the situation. He is the veteran in that situation and he is the one that needs to know when to put the ball in his back pocket, but IF what I thought I saw really happened, I can someone understand Fielder screwing up the play by trying to divert from his instinctual motions at the last minute (and doing that very poorly, mind you) because the pitcher wasn't where he was supposed to be.

Like I said, I would have to see it again to know if I was anywhere close to right in what I remember.

Murphy was at the bag if memory serves.

the only player at the bag was Jackie Bradley

Rosin's hesitation was because he tried going for the bunt first, but believed he wasn't going to get there.

When Fielder picked it up after dropping it initially and flipped it, Murphy had redirected to the bag and was there. Just watched the replay on the mlb at bat app. Flip was offline and Murphy didn't have much of a shot at it.

Lucky -

What was Rosin doing at that point though. In my mind, Fielder was blindly starting the flip (knowing AT BEST it was going to be bang-bang) and then looked up in mid flip to see that Rosin wasn't there or had stopped. That was when he tried adjusting his throw and failing miserably. If he WAS starting the throw blindly, there is no way he would have known to throw the ball to the second baseman instead of throwing it to the pitcher in stride running towards the base.

and make no mistake, as I alluded to in my previous post, I am completely blaming Fielder for trying to play superman in a lost cause after the bobble. He needs to know he had no chance to make the play when he started the flip and needs to eat it at that point to at least give the pitcher a chance of working out of the jam. Instead he tried to do the impossible and gifted them crucial runs without even having to put a bat on a ball.

My only point was that I thought it looked a lot worse on his part than it really was.

Rosin made an attempt to field the bunt but decided he wasn't going to make it. At that point he took himself out of the play, as him and Murphy would have reached the bag at the same time (and it's an easier play for Murphy). After the bobble, it wouldn't have mattered if it was Murphy or Rosin trying to cover, they weren't going to get the runner.

Prince may have been tossing it blindly in attempt to hit Rosin in stride to the bag, but even then it was a bad throw and it turned a bad error into a horrible one. He deserved two errors on that play.

YEAH!!!

Colby may need a GS or two to settle in.

Saunders to the DL.

Also, Harrison's GS at Frisco - 68 PC... hope his back is fine after that... I'm guessing 2-3 weeks? By end of April?

It may be early to track SPs... but then...

Has anyone heard an expectation on limited IP for Colby?

When does Nick Martinez go for RR?

Prince Fielder now hitting 0.100 with runners in scoring position.

0.077 with runners on base.

With how much Choo and Andrus get on base, this team will score a lot of runs if Fielder and Beltre have good seasons.

This ump is inconsistent and frustrating Doub.

A pitch called a ball appears to have split the line on the pitch tracker. Meanwhile a strike was about 2" further outside, and called a strike.

Many more close pitches going as balls than strikes. Not that I'm complaining. Been the same with Perez.

Good outing for Perez. Gonna be a solid pitcher for the Rangers for years to come.
