Is Texas going to suck for a while?

I don't think anyone, even Cameron, doubts that if the Rangers trade Yu and rebuild for 2016 that there will be a dip in attendance. But we're still talking 25,000+ coming out every game -- not Minute-Maid-Graveyard type #'s.

But Cameron also probably recognizes that a Texas Rangers rebuild and the Houston Astros rebuild are two completely different things. Houston had a barren farm and gutted payroll to the point where it was basically a minor league team playing. Texas is positioned enough with their young talent and current contracts to still be a competitive team in 2015 even with a rebuild. They are essentially trying to rebuild to championship caliber while still being a team that can be at the very least competitive.

Add to that a Texas rebuild is a 1 year type thing. Accept 2015 won't be that great and build for 2016. The Astros rebuild was essentially "We've been mediocre for 5 years, we're going to suck for the next 4, and then we'll be good". That's a tough pill for fans to swallow.

I'm very bearish on 2015 Rangers, but that's as a contender. I still think worst-case scenario whether Texas "goes for it" or "sells off" is 75+ wins.

I don't see how Washington and Daniels can both survive this year. While this year has been bad, the two previous year collapses did indeed occur.

Either the farm system wasn't as awesome as we hoped it was (Leonys Martin, etc) - which would indicated JD hasn't built the long-term contender for the best price, or Washington has failed to motivate (isn't that his skill?) the talent provided enough to hold off the A's the last week of the season. If I was the owner, one of them would be out of a job this winter, I guess which one would be a matter of personal taste.

If you fire either based on this season you didn't want them anyway.

Obviously the only one at risk is Wash and Casey Stengel couldn't win with this team. Wash had them at 90+ wins, no Colby or Harry, and Cruz suspended the last few months.

Just last season.

Without injuries if Texas had missed the playoffs again this year I think Washington would have been canned.

The injuries make it a throw-away year, but if Texas starts sniffing 100 losses you're going to hear a lot of rumblings... and if Davis and Simpson are anti-Washington (I couldn't tell you if they are or not), then his days may be numbered.

If he keeps this thing below 92 losses or so I think he's safe though.

Agree on Wash. In the big picture though, this is still a team with its ace, its closer, 3/4 of its infield (Odor has been very capable), the OF you intended to have (although Choo has been playing hurt), and reasonably decent play at catcher. The pitching staff has been hammered, but I don't see enough reason for worst-in-the-league performance.

But I expect him to get a pass if they keep it south of 100-105-ish losses.

Gonna be cutting it close. I've been saying 94 for several weeks and am sticking with it but damn, it looks like it could be worse. Much worse.

I know. They are not even competitive most nights these days.

The only guarantee fire right now...IMHO...is Dave Magadan...that guy has been stealing pay for the last two seasons

According to CBS the Royals are taking a look at Rios. Apparently they had scouts in Toronto for the series with the Rangers....naturally Rios proceeded to sprain his ankle in the first inning of game 1. The curse lives on.

We could have used our prospects back from the Garza trade and a few others. That does hurt in this situation. I know hindsight is 20/20 but we lost some good prospects trying to make that run.

Now is the time to try and get some back!

Olt is hitting .142 for the Cubs and CJ Edwards is in the minors fresh off shoulder issues.

They might be fine in future years but they weren't helping this year.

Now the Blue Jays are interested in Rios

I used Garza as just one example. I would rather have had a couple of our prospects back from other trades even if they weren't ready right now.

Who though? Leury Garcia? Christian Villanueva? Kyle Hendricks?

Not having these guys doesn't appear to be a real issue.

PS - Olt optioned to AAA today.

Core - I don't care about the big league level right now. I am stating that I would have rather kept them in the minors to see what might have been.

I was more interested in their continued development than the analytics if they can hang in the big leagues right now.

How is barrett doing? I haven't heard about him in a while.

Knebel with closer stuff; Thompson projects as a mid rotation guy.

Two of their top 5 prospects. Good haul.

Nice haul. That reasonable club option on Soria surely helped. Might as well put Nefty back in the role and see what happens.

Very solid trade. Knebel will be a strong bullpen piece immediately. Thompson a big strong right handed arm who was a top prospect in Det org.

JD's buy trades may not have worked out great the last two seasons, though they may prove to not matter. But there is no debating his sell trades have been great.

They drafted Knebel in the first (sandwich) last year and Thompson in the 2nd in 2012. Knebel has already seen time in the bigs. Very encouraging.

Very nice trade! Glad to get some good prospects back.

Enjoyed watching Nathan implode again last Saturday -- he's been the gift that's kept on giving for Texas.
