I was also yelling for them to send him, but yeah, he would have been out by a couple of miles.

Great run from the Royals, though. Don't care for the Giants, but what they've done the past 5 years is very impressive, and you can't help but be in awe of Bumgarner's World Series.

Great quote about Madison Bumgarner:

"He's very determined," pitching coach Dave Righetti said. "Red-assed, to be honest. This guy wanted to be great from the beginning. He's willing to work for it."

I'm gonna tell the giants the same thing I told them after they beat the rangers. You can take that trophy and stick it somewhere, no one respects your organization anymore than they did 5 years ago.

Agreed by that point you don't send him, but if you watch the entire replay he's almost stopped when he gets to first base and he slowed himself down looking into the outfield between second and third. Bad baserunning by Gordon, we'll never know how close he would've been to potentially scoring because he was being lazy.

That said there's a ton of those plays in a series that could make a difference. The other thing that drives me crazy is the poor outfield fundamentals on both sides allowing guys to tag and take third on balls to left field. That should never happen.

I wish KC had sent Gordon, because safe or out if would have become one of the most famous plays in world series history. Remembered forever. And if it had been a close play, the replay review would have decided the championship

But it wouldn't have been close.

It would have been a much more exciting finish to the game, just because it was a play at the plate to determine the world series. But yeah, that would be conceding a loss. There was no way he was going to make that safely

Assuming a good throw.

Assuming Gordon doesn't trip and fall.

COULD something crazy happen? Sure. The percentages say it doesn't though.

Honestly if you're going to dive into the "make them make the throw and see what happens" camp, you'd be better of holding Gordon at third and having Perez (even a hobbled Perez) squeeze bunt with 2 outs.

Sandoval was playing back so a bunt that makes it up the 3rd base line likely nets you a hit and ties the game. If Bumgarner manages to field it you've got a pitcher fielding a ball and throwing to first base -- a play that the percentages say is far more likely to result in an error than a shortstop making a routine cut-off throw to the plate.

Not saying it's what KC should have done -- the percentages play in favor of letting Perez hit... just saying that if we're playing the "take a longhsot!" game, then the 2-out squeeze has better odds.

Take a long shot was a reasonable strategy considering who was on the mound.

It's only bad baserunning in hind sight. Golden rule in base running is don't make the last out. Making the last out on a base running gaff in GAME 7 of the WS is ball through the legs at first base legend.

Gordon had no clue he would miss the line drive hop, so he slowed rounding 1st. When he saw the miss, he headed for 2nd, I'm sure with an eye towards 3rd. Then, upon seeing the 2nd miss, he goes for 3rd, at which point the coach is holding him.

But lets assume Gordon just goes for broke from the get go. He's still out by 15 feet or more.

The mistake was letting Perez bat and leaving Willingham on the bench for most of the series.
