I said this weeks ago. Then Framber + 3 of Javier, Urquidy, France, Brown. Other guy in the pen. That is not a team I want to see in the playoffs if I am anyone. A SP would be great but we can make a solid run with these players (if Dusty is kind enough to let us make the playoffs). We can also flame out like any other team not getting hot in a month. Id even take another bullpen guy, the SD closer for example. That gives us 5 arms that you know will pitch a shutout inning. So really, your starter only needs to give you 4. Between framber, Javier (promising last start) , Urquidy, Brown, and French I feel good getting those 4 innings. While it would be nice to get a starter with contract control over multiple year, if you get Garcia back you still have a great 5 man rotation..so a rental for Gilbert to win this year may not be so bad, especillay as i struggle to see a window for Gilbert to come up.
Honeslty, the only hole on this team is Dusty. Try one game with:

Yordan
Tuck
Abreu
Diaz

Julks/Meyer
Any you may not need a quality start every night to win.

He doesn't need to, all he needs to do is look at how he's handled the catching situation all year.
Think we'd be better off picking up the tab on the contract rather than giving up our top prospects. I also think its dangerous to assume Tucker agrees an extension before at least trying free agency.

Baseball prospectus has him as a top 50 player overall yet MLB has him at 27th in our own system.
He had a 1.102 in Ashville earlier this year. He hasn't quite taken off in Corpus yet.

I think he's both.
Honestly, France's expected numbers indicate he's been pretty fortunate. I'm not saying I would, but I think it would be smart to at least consider selling him high.

This is kind of where I am. I wouldn't jump to say yes but i also wouldn't hang up immediately.
I mean Gilbert/France for JV and money doesn't sound all that bad.
You'd essentially be rolling it back with the same rotation that won you a WS last year.

France has been dealing all year. We don't know what he will be like in a playoff situation, but we have seen what happens to JV already more than once.
Hypothetically, if that got it done you still have lots of assets left.
