JV still holds all the leverage. I sense he has made it quite clear his preference is to return to Houston and the Mets are going to hold out as long as they can.

Yup. If JV holds strong then it puts all the pressure on Cohen. Can he stomach holding him, paying him, and missing the opportunity to buy more prospects?

which is why I think the organization needs to be cautious with this trade deadline. We have been on a nice run for the better part of 7 seasons. We have the ability to prolong that run (even if we "dip" a bit in the next year or two). We have aging/declining players in Altuve, Bregman, etc. We have bolstered our run by giving up some talented prospects and depleting our farm system. If we overpay (quite likely in this market) for JV or someone else, we could put ourselves in a tight spot over the next 3 years.

The best moves we could make would be to cut maldy, find some back up catcher, and bring up singleton for ****s and let's give it a try giggles.
The farm system was depleted by promoting some elite players, loss of draft picks, and a few whiffs. I mean if they brought back Correa and left Peña in the minors the farm system would look better, no? Same for Vazquez and Diaz.
I think at some point you ramp it up. If Cease is to be had for 2 of your top 'prospects' who says no?

Prospects, minor league player rankings, etc are all garbage. Evident by so many top players never panning out and so many late round picks who turn into major league contributors.
The goal is to win on the big club. The current team is in position to give it another run and to win back to back World Series. Imo you trade damn near anyone in the minors if it means receiving proven big league talent. Granted $ plays a role, but I hate the idea of certain prospects being untouchable. Nobody can predict the future, but if you're in contention in the present you do what you have to go and try to win another.

Justin gets a fair amount of criticism for his postseason history, and a lot of it is warranted, but let's not forget the fact that he was an absolute dog in game 5 last year and has had some huge games for us. In the post season, it's easy to gloss over that. In focus on his bad outings. Let's also not forget. We have to get to the Post season And he could be a huge part of getting us there

No updates on my end. Not super surprised as I would expect things to be kept pretty tight lipped today.
JV increases significantly your odds that you win the ALCS and make it to the WS. From there it's up to the team to win it. That's how I think of his value.
Also increases the chance at winning the division and avoiding the wild card round.....BadAggie said:

I'm not Ketch but I would guess 90%+ a deal get done today. Even if it's not JV we'll add something.
