Agreed, he cost me a guess as well. Then I remembered Ichiro and people saying he was too old for ROY. I was able to dial up Ron Kittle successfully though, looking to improve my rarity score.

It surprises me how much easier it is to name players that reached specific milestones (500 HR, 3K hits, even All Stars) than it is for me to name a random player that played for two teams, even though there are hundreds more possibilities for the random players.
Almost the same grid for me including the same miss; I tried Mr. Free Space there today to no avail. The one difference for me was using another Aggie, Mark Thurmond in place of Ausmus; it shaved my rarity score down to 283.jkag89 said:

After I played Thurmond, I realized I could have used him in place of Gaylord Perry and then used Scott Livingstone for the Tigers/Padres square to get another Aggie on the board.
I almost used Livingstone to get an Aggie in the grid but was unsure so kept with my initial sure choice. Kensing was simply a shot it the dark, somehow I remembered his last season was with the Tigers so I tried him. Disappointed in myself that I did not think of Thurmond
