I made the same mistake with Jason isringhausen and St Louis. He was on the team in 2006 but left off the World Series roster. Jason was hurt. Fiers just sucked.

Wasn't he kept from the playoffs? Its still kind of strange. Dont think he was ever removed from the roster.

Good game! There are plenty of lesser know Astros' players on both WS Championship Teams you could have used besides than Fiers.

Edit: Checked Fiers' Baseball Reference page, it shows he was not used in the '17 Postseason. I don't recall if he was part of the postseason roster or just was not used. Still I agree it is nitpicking since he was part of the Championship Club. Anyways I stand by my initial reaction.

Yeah I tried to play Jose Siri for the rarity score but I guess since he wasn't on the team during the actual WS last year he doesn't count even though he got a ring.

Fiers may have been inactive for the playoffs but he was definitely still on the roster because I remember him sprinting in with Verlander from the bullpen after the final out. But yeah, I probably deserve it for picking the rat *******.

The only pitcher since 1998 with more than 22 wins is Randy Johnson (24, 2002). Twenty wins is highly unusual with the way pitchers are used now, and requires a good bit of luck.

Verlander won 24 in 2011

Since 1998 there's been a 20 game winner every season except 4 and one of those was the COVID shortened 2020 so really just 3. IN that time span there have also been 14 years in which there were multiple 20 game winners.

That's not really highly unusual.

OK, in retrospect I was looking at National League stats only. (And i overlooked Schilling in 2002, at that.)

But the point remains: even a Cy Young level pitcher is far from guaranteed to win 20 in this era.
