Maybe he was a little over hyped, but he's a career good 4/5 in the rotation. He was having a really nice start to the season when he got hurt in 2023.
Joey Gallo had a really good season going in '19. Putting up a half or 2/3rds of a really good season, and doing it one time, is not something I'm going to buy into. Maybe he'll be solid, maybe he won't. But I think the jury is very much out on him, and saying he's a "career good 4/5 in the rotation" isn't really accurate. He's had two decent years in 8 MLB seasons - 2. If his velocity doesn't come back, it's pretty concerning.

This is a pretty good article IMO, and it illustrates the danger of putting too much belief in a player having one good season, or even two.

MLB One Year Wonders

The Rangers have had their share of them. Dave Hostetler, George Wright, Jim Bibby, Matt Harrison, Jim Kern...there's a lot more.

Chris Young wanted him. What the Rangers did in the decades before him doesn't matter.

No offense at all, but I won't overthink this one. Like at all. If he doesn't work out he falls off after this season. Him and Gray both. We need Mahle to be a serviceable starting rotation member and if he's healthy, he will be exactly that.

He has a career 4.32 ERA and he hasn't had a bad year since 2019. He was really good in 20 and 21 and more than solid in 22. He was off to a great start in 23 before being injured.

Nothing wrong with that for a 4/5. I think the organization may have oversold him a little and I think you are underselling him a little.

Google "Texas Rangers tv market map". Pretty sure it covers like 80% of the state, including the Austin area. I know I'm good and I live in College Station. I looked into it before I signed up for Victory.
