I've been able to watch a lot of Walker the last 2 years and think he's a fit. Hiys and plays great defense.

You can basically get Kim and Walker for the price of Bregman. Putting emotional attachment aside, that's a no brainer. My only question from that is what could you get for Dezenzo as he has no position for the foreseeable future.

I posed that question to a couple Astros nuts and I think the answer was heart = Bregman and head = Kim/Walker.

But there is a very realistic world where Bregman outperforms both by a significant margin over the next 2-3 years. I don't think it's a slam dunk.

Yes but also possible he continues the downward slide with the bat and both Kim and Walker each have better seasons and you don't have to deal with as much of the back half of the contract. After Abreu, Walker scares me a bit but at least I know I'm getting the defense.

The Kim / Walker had a floor off very good defense, but Bregman kind of does too. Sure, they could outperform him, but based on age and history Bregman is much more likely to be better. The downside would be he fills one hole and he will likely be not worth it by the end of his deal. They clearly fill 2 and would be shorter term commitments. Maybe we get under the tax with Bregman if we sell off a few guys. No chance we do with Kim & Walker. There are pros and cons. Not a no brainer at all.

Bregman needs to retire as an Astro. Hopefully he's the second that realizes he is destined to be here and may not be a fit on another team.

I guess you never say never, but as close to zero chance as you can get the Mets sign Bregman.

ETA: without knowing you guys system and money situation, I think it's likely you guys sign Walker and perhaps a smaller possibility you get Alonso.

Alonso is outside our price range. If we are gonna spend that big it will be for Bregman.

The difference is I feel we know what we're getting with Bregman both on and off the field.

It's a little unknown with any of the other options.

Whoever it is they will have very deep pockets. So NYY, LAD, NYM, maybe LAA or ChiC. $600MM kind of limits the options.

The one thing about Soto is Crane strikes me as the kind of guy who would love to stick it to the Yankees. We also have to consider our situation. Right now you are looking at losing Bregman, Tucker and Framber in a 12 month span. If you decide you have to bite the bullet to hand out one mega deal, why not Soto while letting those 3 go? Soto would likely make less than Bregman plus Framber combined this year so you save money signing Soto instead of resigning Bregman (if you also trade one of Framber or Tucker). That lineup would look stacked in 2025 with Tuve, Yordan, Soto and Tucker.

I still highly doubt Crane would throw the bag necessary at Soto (Mets seem like the best fit).

They need to limit how many Japanese players a given team can sign over a period of time. It's not good for the game to have all the good Japanese players on 2 or 3 teams anyway.

Framber and Ronel weren't.

They would count towards international signing rules if they signed at the same age today.
