Pretty sure if you don't get any columns correct it's an out (regardless of number of individual correct answers). 1 column correct per guess is a single, 2 double, etc.

Agreed. I have no issues keeping an offer on the table for Bregman but I don't think I would have the original offer out there. Would be willing to up the per year a bit but would be offering 4yrs max but ideally 3yrs with a player opt out after 2 and a 4th year team option available if the player stays through the 3rd year.

Yup but this is how most FAs work. You get a few more years of prime but the cost is the back end. You could theoretically pay him 3/110 M because that's way he might be worth in the remaining prime years. But then you wreck your AAV and take up too much tax space.

While Boras earned the opportunity over many years to represent Soto and get his record deal done, i think the credit Scott gets for it is overblown. Ohtani and Soto were going to reset the market regardless of who their agents were.

Hopefully Hunter Brown becomes a star here these next few years so he can avoid what Alex is dealing with once it's time to move on.

Bregman screwed himself from crazy money this time by signing the team friendly deal that ate up 2 years of prime and got him a 10 M signing bonus. His contract paid him similarly to what arbitration would have for the first 3 years. The final 2 were at 30.5. That plus the signing bonus means he got around 2/80 M (funny math to calculate 10 M at the signing).

If you take the 6/156 and include the estimated extension money then it turns into 8/236. That's almost a 30 M AAV and not too dissimilar to what Arenado got or Machado got the first time around.

Based on what Carabas has said, I don't see it. I think Bregman is going to come home OR settle for a Bellinger type deal and end up in Chicago for 3/84 with opt outs each year.

the Rendon contract and the Kris Bryant contract are the two contracts that have changed the way teams (or more teams) look at long term deals

some players are going to lose their drive or edge once they are set for life. Especially if they have already won a championship / reached the pinnacle. And even more so when playing for a bad team

I really hope it is for a deal that crushes what the Astros offered. If not the fans will be brutal and it will be kind of a kick in the nuts to Tuve after he came out in such support and wanting him to stay. If Bregs didnt want to stay from the get go, then just say it up front.
