Seems like the Arenado trade get more unlikely by the day.
I know many on this board are against it, but I thought it would make us better. I'm hoping for one final move to beef up the squad heading into the year.
The Brendan Rodgers acquisition was a nice little surprise that could work out really well.
I'd be okay with the trade if a lot of his salary gets eaten by the cardinals and they take Montero
It makes us better this year and likely next year
Agreed. I hope he would not be an everyday player, though. Espada should have an easy time rotating and resting guys with Walker, Paredes, Altuve, Dubon, maybe Rodgers, I assume Singleton, and another IF like Arenado.
That brings up a question. What would the roster look like if Dana did get Arenado? Would Rodgers or Singleton have a spot?
Roster locks- position players (10 at present):
- Yainer Diaz
- Victor Caratini
- Christian Walker
- Jose Altuve
- Jeremy Peña
- Isaac Paredes
- Yordan Alvarez
- Chas McCormick
- Jake Meyers
- Mauricio Dubn
Bench/platoon options (likely only 3 spots available):
- Ben Gamel
- Zach Dezenzo
- Jon Singleton
- Brandon Rodgers
Roster locks- starters (5)
- Framber Valdez
- Hunter Brown
- Ronel Blanco
- Spencer Arrighetti
- Hayden Wesneski
Roster locks- relievers (3):
- Josh Hader
- Bryan Abreu
- Tayler Scott
Reliever options, and some may be locks (5):
- Bryan King
- Kaleb Ort (discomfort)
- Forrest Whitley
- Shawn Dubin
- Rafael Montero
Bonus... pitching returnees at some point, hopefully (locks, if they do):
- LMJ (starter)
- Garcia (either)
- Javier (assume starter)
- France (may not be a lock)
Wesneski could move to the pen, I guess, and Blanco too if enough starters come back and pitch effectively. That would make the pen stout, IMO.
Anyway, back to Arenado. Not many spots available for another infielder. Who would back up Walker if not Singleton... Diaz, Dezenzo, or Dubon?
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.
