1. That brisket already looks at least 6-8 hours into the cook
2. Why would you smoke it for 3 days?
3. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN BASIL?!

What i draw from this is..... we should readjust our approach to prospects and only sign guys under 5'7'' so were about to be Chinas biggest farm system

I'm not sure that's completely accurate.

It would make a lot more sense that the height they use to establish your zone is not your listed height but the height measured when you're in your stance.

That strike zone seems WAY too small.

Right?
Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?

It's the listed height from what I've read too.

Interesting.

A strike zone from the knees to the belly button is gonna wreck havoc on pitchers.

Houston Meat Sweats = problem solved

Make all the jerseys except the Tequila Sunrises look like Ronel's after 1 inning pitched. Talk about intimidation factor.

Interesting.

A strike zone from the knees to the belly button is gonna wreck havoc on pitchers.

Here is the rule:

Quote:

The official strike zone is the area over home plate from the midpoint between a batter's shoulders and the top of the uniform pants -- when the batter is in his stance and prepared to swing at a pitched ball -- and a point just below the kneecap. In order to get a strike call, part of the ball must cross over part of home plate while in the aforementioned area.

That midpoint is generally the bottom of the letters. I don't think that pitch gets called.

Here is an example of what gets called vs the ABS. It is smaller, but not as much as you'd think.

Farmer1906

More graphics on ABS vs what umps call.

Farmer1906

Last one.

Remember it is a 2D zone in the middle of the plate. The 3d zones were enormous and some terrible pitches were called strikes due to pitches barely clipping a corner at the very front or back of the zone.

How do the team rankings correlate with W-L record?
Great question. Let me nerd out. Some correlation, but plenty of exceptions to the rule (like us).

Edit:

If you see a lot of pitches, you probably don't suck. But just because you don't see a bunch of pitches, doesn't mean you can't be good. Very few in an imaginary top left quadrant. Several in an imaginary bottom right quadrant.

Edit:

This exercise should have been done with Runs, not Win%.

That really makes it clear what an outlier we were relative to everybody else. Hopefully improving that is a big point of emphasis this spring.

If you feel like nerding out some more, how does the ranking of teams getting screwed by the umps correlate to pitches watched?

I think the win percentage is good because it isn't just a matter of how many runs you score, but how quickly you get to the other team's BP.

Yup. Paredes and Walker help too. That was kind of my point in the first post.

We replace Caratini, Dezenzo, Singleton, & Abreu with Walker.

We replace Bregman or possibly Altuve with Paredes.

We might even replace Dubon with Rodgers (3.84)

In getting to the bullpen early and often should translate to runs. If it doesn't, then what is the point?

Win% includes pitching and defense. Those don't matter for this specifically.
