if you can trade Arenado and put Cam in right, all of a sudden, I really like this lineup regardless of CF
And then in 1 or 2 months when Cam is hitting .215, the board is ready for him to go down to AAA to figure it out.

Not saying that would happen, but it's the most likely scenario. The kid has 32 ABs in AA. He's seeing spring training pitching.

True talent can mash tho.

Chas and Meyers are seeing the same spring break pitching
True talent isn't mashing spring training pitching right now tho:

Yanier is batting .188.
Altuve is batting .182.
Yordan is batting .083.

I'm excited about Cam Smith just like the rest of you guys, but man, this board was ready to send Bregman back down when he's was like 0-60 (or whatever it was) to start and he had 236 ABs at AA and 78 ABs at AAA prior to joining the Astros.

The true test for a major league hitter is adjusting once opposing teams have a scouting report on them. With that said, Smith looks like he belongs. But there have been others that tore it up in spring training. Dirden. The great white shark, which actually continued into a few weeks of the season.

I'd start Smith in AA and let hit keep it rolling. If he does, move him up to AAA. If he's still raking, then you have to give him a shot.

I could get used to a guy like Rodgers playing second, and if he can hit like that to the tune of .260 or so, what a find.

Lastly, I think we need to move on from Arenado.

yes, Vlad jr. is a very inconsistent player season to season

don't know if he's going to give you 2.0 or 6.0 WAR

and of course conditioning long term is a concern

He's figuring that Soto had reset the market. We will all know in a year if that's what happened. Tucker has a better shot at it than Vlad IMHO.

and yet, given all that, he is still better than Myers and company, we have gaping holes in center and right, I will take 32 AB cam smith all day over the alternative

you can't say Smith is better than Myers or Jake when he's never played baseball at a MLB level. We certainly hope he will be and hopefully as soon as possible. Chas has performed at the highest level as a major contributor to a World Series champion and Jake is at least an accomplished defensive player. All of the crash-and-burn prospects we've had over the year, and every team has over the years, means there are no sure things. I remember feeling the same way about Eric Anthony and Daryle Ward that a lot of people are feeling about Cam Smith right now. He might turn into Yordan 2.0, but what's the rush?

Jake looked like a future All-Star/ROY candidate when he was called up in '21. Things can change quickly.

Jake batted .250 with and OPS of .758 and an OPS + of 113 against LHP last year in 130ish ABs.

He's a platoon player, but the organization isn't doing anything to make thar happen. They aren't putting him in positions to be successful. When he's in those positions, he's successful. Despite that, he still produced a WAR of 1.7 or 2.0 depending on your source.

Instead, the org is trying to trade for a Nolan.

Cam may indeed be the answer, but Jake has a place in this org when used properly.

Jake was never highly regarded as a prospect so him coming back to reality was expected. Even as is he's outplayed what any reasonable evaluator thought he would be. That said, we've also seen plenty of highly regarded prospects flop so we should not expect Smith to come up and be a rock star. Really the only reason to consider calling him up is these stupid rules rewarding teams for bringing up rookies out of spring training. If you think it's likely he will be up in May or June then you may be better off just seeing what he can do on opening day.

Speaking of crushing spring training pitching, Tucker is 0-17 with 7 K's so far. Yikes.

That might be the biggest miscalculation of self-worth I've ever seen
While I agree, the other side of it is Toronto apparently needs to pay a lot to get guys to stay with them, show why not put that amount out there and see if the Jays bite? Maybe they'd be desperate enough to do it.

Maybe that's just what it takes to stay in Toronto and his market for outside of Toronto is much more realistic/lower.

It's just spring training, but that's rough. Hopefully he has a better start to his walk season than Bregman.

I wonder if he's been loafing too...Cubs might be having buyer's remorse but dude is just too good a hitter not to mash.

Until Cam Smith breaks camp with the big league club or gets called up mid-season. Then we will go back to 30.

He's streaky.

He'll have those 0-17 streaks and then turn around and go 6-17 with 3 nukes. You just have to hope he has more of those 6-17 streaks.

The Blue Jays should build a new stadium in Buffalo NY. It's only a 2 hour drive. Or agree to be the 51st state.
