I remember it being a huge thing when Ken Caminiti moved straight from AA Columbus to the Astros in 1987; can anyone think of it happening more recently?
Did Pena play any at AAA? I think Chas went straight from AA to the big leagues. Bloss made the jump last year. Don't forget LuAce went from single-A to starting an ALCS game against the Rays.texasaggie2015 said:
There's been a few pitchers. Position players.. I can't recall off the top of my head.
Cam Smith will start in right field during one of the Astros’ two games on Thursday (it’s a split squad). He will DH tomorrow. Smith played five innings in right field on the back fields today under Michael Brantley’s watchful eye

It says “Stros” on front of the jersey. Also, the jerseys will be white.

And the first time he played first base in a game was in the big leagues, in his 3rd game with the AstrosFarmer1906 said:

Couldn't agree more.TarponChaser said:It matters who is doing your coaching. I tried to edit my post about pitching coaches & strength training that it's funny how there are different perspectives.BohunkAg said:I'm not sure there's a focus on the stretching and flexibility. It's hard to nail down. In some cases (not necessarily baseball), it's all bulk, bulk, bulk, more, more, more on these kids, and without the right kind of balance (i.e., flexibility and building the right kind of muscles to compensate), it's all going to collapse on them.TarponChaser said:That's funny because I know a number of pitching coaches and they're adamant that too many kids who pitch don't do enough strength training which leads to injuries.MAROON said:
my buddy who is a pitching coach, said they feel directly tied to too much strength training - too heavy of weights being pumped leads to damages in connective tissue that shows up when they hit the field.
Velo is part of the problem, but TJ s have increased even with lower pitch counts. They feel it's the weight training.
But, as an ex-jock who is acutely aware of how important flexibility is to athleticism I made it a point in my life and in who my boys work with to ensure that flexibility is every bit as important as the strength. Bulk isn't what's important, it's functional/athletic strength and mobility/flexibility and speed/quickness/explosiveness. Size just comes along with that to an extent.

Cam Smith will start a game in right field on Thursday, underscoring his serious candidacy for the Astros’ Opening Day roster. Within this story, outfield coach Jason Bell’s early impressions on Smith and an attempt to quantify his spring production - https://t.co/ocgy8gGQ4e

I would love those if they were are regular alternates.
A little bit of a letdown for City Connects. I expect more flash.

Too early to start speculating on where we trade Framber if he is not interested in signing a deal before the deadline?EastCoastAgNc said:Major League Baseball has set the trade deadline for this season: July 31, a Thursday, at 6 p.m.

Yes the same guy told me "Nolan ryan never lifted any more than his body weight"……no idea of that is true or not. I know Nolan spent tons of time in the exercise bike

Nolan reportedly worked a lot on leg strength because he generated a lot of his power from his lower body. In Facing Nolan, I believe he said he lifted every day except the day before and the day he pitched. I think the difference is what has been said above. He was lifting for functional strength, not bulk. He also did a lot of stretching to maintain flexibility.Hornbeck said:MAROON said:

I've heard he did 1000 lb leg presses.
