His trade value will be strong. The problem is that we are still going to be in contention for a crap division even if we are .500. I don't see Dana as willing to handle the smoke that comes with the optics of that trade.

If we're in contention for the division you'd want to trade away a piece and not compete for it? That seems like crazy talk. The goal is to win a title. You gotta make October to do that.
I would trade Framber. I don't agree that equates to giving up. Did we give up when we traded Tucker? No we got 3 pieces helping our team right now. We need to move to praying on other teams trade deadline desperation.

I will give an example. Let's say the Dodgers have SP injuries again and need a starter. They have a switch hitting SS named Alex Freeland in AAA who is blocked by Mookie and Edman. I would trade for him and immediately plug into 2B to get that extra lefty bat. Will he be as valuable as Framber this year? Probably not but it isn't impossible either. This team has better pitching than hitting so maybe that gives you more of what you need.

Well you gotta be able to hit the ball and win consecutive games to do that. So if the entire strategy is "hope the division is ass again," contingency plans would be useful.

You actually don't have to win consecutive games in October. Just the first and last of each series.

Christian Walker from 2022-24 had an OPS over .800 and various other gaudy stats

When that guy shows up will be very welcome

Hopefully it's not "if"

He got Cintron'd
I dont know how big of a problem Cintron is. I dont think he has done much for himself as far as giving anyone much hope.

but Christian Walker is 35 years old. you dont forget how to hit in one season because of a hitting coach.

He just turned 34 3 weeks ago. Just fyi.

You have to win consecutive games at some point (especially when you've already lost three consecutive ones) to make it to October.

Walker started off slow in 2023 also and ended up having his best season to date in his career.

It's early. Sucks, but it's tax day.

some of yall crapping on Framber need to chill. the dude has a 2.80 ERA in his last twenty starts dating back to last year.

Yes, we all know he can get in his head at times, but he's a legit top 5 LHP MLB starter.

Yeah, but if we trade him away, it is one more chance for our hitters to eventually get to see a LHP.

Astros started 7-9 in five of the last six seasons and were 5-11 last year after 16 games. Take at least one of the next two in St. Louis before another big test at home against a red hot San Diego. Don't get swept at home again this season. I don't care who the opponent is.

We will find out alot about the 2025 Astros team this weekend when San Diego comes to town.

Our goal is to win the World Series and to do so you have to compete with, out slug, and beat teams like the Yankees, dodgers, padres, and orioles.

I'm highly interested in this guy as a Framber replacement this offseason. He should be cheaper with his injury history but the stuff is absurd.

May can take the Lance McCullers Endowed Chair of Barista Management while he's out for the next 3 years.

The 3,4, and 5 in this lineup really need to get going, and soon.

It'll be interesting to continue to track which group outperforms the other.

Tucker - 1.2 fWAR
+
Bregman - 0.3

or

Paredes - 0.8
Wesneski - 0.0
Smith - 0.0
+
Walker - -0.1

I imagine most Astros fans would've preferred keeping Tucker and replacing Bregman with Arenado, but I assume we would've been over the CBT to make the latter happen.

If my options are 2 of the following

1 - Tucker
2 - Pardes, Smith, Wesneski

A - Bregman
B - Walker
C - Arenado (minus what it takes to get him)

Now that Walker has started poorly, I think most are taking 2A, but in preseason, I think most take 2B.

I think 1C is the least wanted outcome.

Nope

Because at the end of the day Tucker leaves as a FA and we're stuck with no Tucker, no Paredes, no Cam Smith, and no Wesneski.

Trading Tucker was 100% the right move and we got a very nice return.

So, with the depth of Starting pitching we have coming back this year is a lot. LMJ, France, etc., etc.

There's only so many SP slots. If we can trade a Framber and get multiple prospects, or even a proven LH bat, why wouldn't you?

I agree that it was the right move but should've added not having the benefit of knowing what the Cubs were willing to give up. Seems like Tucker was probably getting traded for the right price no matter what.

Because we don't have crazy depth, look what happened when Spaghetti went down. Lance isn't back yet, even though things look promising. France isn't good enough to be much of a factor replacing Framber.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yes there are guys coming back but each one of those has some fairly large question marks.

Lance - We all know he's one BP session away from his arm falling off
Luis - Been a while since he's pitched and setbacks here recently aren't all that promising
Javier - Been a while since he's pitched and I don't think he's slated to be back this year
France - Meh depth pitcher who doesn't move the needle much even when healthy

This is where I'm at. I know our pitching depth isn't what it used to be, but if the bats come around -- we can afford to have younger, average pitching and compete.

I like Framber, and he gives us the best chance to win this year -- but our farm system needs to reload.

If we could get anything close to what we received for Tucker at the trade deadline to help bolster us in 26 and 27 while allowing us to compete in this down division, I'm all for it.

Because that depth is a mirage for the most part. We have a bunch of guys that would make a pretty strong rotation on paper, but have been injury prone and it is anybody's guess when they will actually be ready to go again and whether they will be able to recapture what they had before their injuries. I am all for trading players who we think we have no chance to resign to get something instead of nothing. But I don't think we have the SP depth that people think we have.

And -- in SL -- we have some other arms with Blubaugh, Gordon, Ivey,(rooting for this guy), Glenn Otto -- where we can make roster moves to utilize them.

Last year, we called up Jake Bloss and that kid from AA who got lit up by the Rangers. We went last year without LMJ, Javier and Urquidy. We will be ok if HB is our new ace and we piece it together.

I was assuming Alex was gone no matter what and preferred a fresh start and that Walker was our top free agent target regardless of other moves, just to clarify.

Just saw that Donovan was 4 for 4 last night. Of course.

Add in Tucker's tendency to disappear in the playoffs and I am excited to see what we might have with 2B. Tucker wasn't going to resign here, so we made a good trade and got what we could.

Recalling the prediction thread from memory, that's 3 of lots of folks final 8 teams. And quite a few had those in the last 4.
