Not sure how that would dictate Slazar being called up.

My guess is it's Yordan to the IL and now Yanier or Caritini can DH and Salazar is now the 2nd catcher.

And honestly maybe not a bad thing given Yordan's rough start.

How will a third string catcher replace Yordan's productivity?

OK, never mind.

Heard on the telecast yesterday that Espada said Yordan's hand was feeling much better. So now he goes on the IL.
I'm now at the point that I don't believe a word when Espada makes comments about a players health.

Why would you believe anything the Astros say about injuries? It's been that way for years

I think Yordan had a similar issue a few years ago (hands). Hopefully he will be more his normal self when he returns. To think that we are a .500 team with him batting so poorly is pretty amazing. Come back strong Yordan!

It's not like he was tearing the cover off the baseball. Yuli broke his in spring training in 2018 and missed 6-8 weeks or something like that.

Maybe Yordan should have Moises Alou pee on them to toughen them up?

I can't PM, but if they're Monday or Tuesday I'll take them off your hands if they're still available.

Don't let him borrow Alou's treadmill.

Can't wait for today's game just to get the taste of yesterday's out. Something about losing like that just felt so cheap. Good thing it is only 1 of 162.

I don't have the study handy but years ago someone looked at guys who had that injury. Yes they could come back in a few months but a high percentage had their power zapped for that year. Using Yuli as an example, his OPS was .817, .751, and .884 from 2017-2019. Guess which season was the one he had the hamate injury? I suspect it will be exaggerated for a guy like Yordan who gets more of his value from HRs.

Yordan is a fearsome hitter when healthy. He has been hurt at some point most seasons, but his stats show 496, 561, 598, and 635 plate appearances the past four years. He had 369 PA's in 2019 after being called up until June.

He may play hurt more than he should, but he's definitely not as fragile as Trout, Rendon, or Stanton.

We could get a lot for Yordan at the deadline if we're not in it. I've said this before but I'm weary of his constant trips to the DL.

I think it's a fair question to wonder how his body will age. I would not expect Crane to sign Alvarez to a long-term deal with the potential red flags related to his health, but that's just based on Correa and the others. Beats me.

That feels like selling low.

Framber is the obvious trade candidate. The Muts, Dodgers, or Red Sox seem prime to give up some quality assets for him.

Bryan Abreu is the other guy I'd look at dealing. He's starting to get expensive and you could backfill him with someone like David Robertson.

Unless he gets way healthier from this point on, Yordan is going to go down a a career "what might have been" guy and I don't even know why he's always getting hurt. It's not like he's George Springer or Jim Edmonds or Freddy Lynn always throwing his body around in the field in maximum effort and getting dinged up.

He'll be 28 in 7 weeks his 162- game averages are off the chart (103 runs, 41 HR, 119 RBI), but he's only got 1 season of 100 RBI and has never led the league in a single category. He was GOAT in the 22 playoffs, but I bet a lot of you like me thought he'd have won an MVP by now or a HR crown or a RBI title.

He's lethal when he's locked in, but where's that been other than 1-2 games this year? There was a time when he looked like he was going to challenge Judge for best player in the AL, but that time has vanished. Yordan is an all-time Astro, but he's at the magic age where the prime is supposed to be happening, and the only reason his name isn't getting dragged through sports radio hell is that Diaz and Walker have been just as bad or worse, without the post-season pedigree to mitigate it.
MaxPower

His entire premise is based on being in contention. I agree with him on that, though I imagine my definition of in contention and his are different.

If Yordan is out for awhile then this thing may solve itself.

Yordan appears to have relied on God given strength and ability. He doesn't strike me as a workout warrior. That needs to change. I'd be curious as to the inside info on his work ethic, is he a Tucker or a Pena ?

Oh I know that it's been like that for as long as I can remember. Thought maybe things would be different with Joe but it seems to be a company line type of things to say exactly the opposite of a players injury status.

Have you seen pics of him when he first came to the US? Dude has worked his ass off and really transformed his body.

The knock on him early on was 1. He couldn't play defense and 2. He was too skinny

It's not his work ethic it's his size.

It's typical for big dudes like him to have nagging injuries.
