Let me preface this by saying that I have not given Rafael Devers a single thought for his entire career until the drama with Bregman and 3rd base began to brew this offseason. So I don't pretend to have a firm grasp of him as a person or as an athlete.
That said, Devers doesn's strike me as a guy who is level headed and has the ability to block out criticism and noise from the Boston media.
I think all of this is going to end with Devers leaving Boston. I don't think he has the emotional maturity to put all of the drama behind him, and his performance so far has been disastrous. And I don't think this is going to be a situation where it gets better with time.
But I absolutely look forward to watching all of it unfold

1) Altuve is just one of the great players of this generation, which no degree of media-driven negativity has been able to overcome. Over time, Jose's play on the field and his conduct off the field counts for more than the sports media's established narratives and self-righteous yipping.
2) A much larger chunk of the baseball watching public never bought into the anti-Astros "cheating scandal related" propaganda than the sports media would have us believe.
3) To a sizable chunk of non-Astros baseball fans Altuve actually became a more sympathetic figure because of the nature of the attacks against both him and the Astros.
4) And amongst a smaller subset of the prior groups, rooting for Altuve (and/or the Astros) became a way to buck the baseball/media establishment... similar to how the 1970s spawned a national following for the Oakland Raiders, whom the narratives of the day characterized as the "villains" or "outcasts" of professional football.

Maybe he's just doing Bregs a favor and taking eyes off of his slow start.
Jose Altuve was always going to play second base in this series. Doing it behind an extreme fly ball pitcher like Ronel Blanco is logical. Getting Mauricio Dubón in left against an extreme fly ball pitcher is also prudent.
