Wasn't an embarrassing series at Chicago what kick started the run last season?
If the hitting coach isn't willing to talk to even the best player on the team about basic things he is doing wrong that are hurting the team, then he has no business being a coach. Altuve is a team guy all the way. If somebody came up to him as he was heading out of the dugout and said "take your time up there, Lance is gassed", he would probably make it a ten pitch at bat. I don't care who the hitting coach is - no hitting coach is telling Altuve to take 2 pitches because the pitcher has just thrown 30.
But honestly, we have so many other issues right now, that kind of thing is way down the list.

The optimistic side of me says there's no way Yordan, Yainer, Walker, and Framber can continue to be this bad. We will see where we are in a few months. My fear is we are floating around .500 in July but only 5ish games out of the AL West lead. That may lead brass down a path that simply isn't well thought out.
This is my fear with Aggie baseball too

Why would they do this? They had a great season two years ago… So obviously their hitting coaches are amazing! If the Rangers are struggling, it's not because of the hitting coaches.

On the positive - LMJ looked good for being on the shelf so long. If he can give us 10-15 quality starts the rest of the way, that's more than any of us planned on and that's something.

I said it earlier. If there was a tootblan metric somewhere I bet we would lead the league.
Today's mess is 90% on Zach just plain dropping that fly ball. Tue other 10% was weather with guys not being able to grip a ball to pitch. If Zach makes the catch the pitching issue is moot.
That's kinda what I'm getting at. I can't remember the last time anyone had a multiple HR game and followed it up with a Little League basepath brainfart. Let alone the last time an Astro did it.

The brain fart was stopping and going back to 2B instead of running to 3rd. Might have still been out, but force another throw
They should have both been running. Worst case you get thrown out at 3B and still have a man on 2B. Going back was the worst thing they could do.

The Mariners fired their hitting coach when they fired Servais. He was then hired by the Yankees as their director of hitting, immediately making him more successful in his job.
The Rangers hitting coach presided over their World Series winning offense, but now he's apparently the reason their offense sucks. Couldn't be that they just aren't very good and happen to get a lot of career years in the same season.
I wouldn't expect the Astros to make a change at hitting coach. Pena looks really good this year. Meyers was able to pull out of a horrendous stretch of games to be our best hitter on paper. Dezenzo and Dubon are on a nice stretch of 8-9 starts. If the hitting coaches are going to bear the blame for the struggles, they need some credit for the guys that aren't.
