How the **** does a player tear a hamstring running out a single to first base and require 6-7 months?
Easy to do with a lean, muscular build and your not constantly keeping the muscle loose and warmed up.

Not sure easy to do is something that comes to mind.

He's a. Professional athlete, I assume he warms up before the games

I've just never heard of anyone that does cardio tearing a hamstring off the bone …he wasn't running that fast to first
The muscle needs to be constantly warmed (constant twitch movement) and/or loosened (stretches) up. Not a lot of running playing 3rd base and players dont move around a lot when sitting on the bench waiting for their turn to bat. Isaac doesnt look like the type who does a lot of cardio and, as already stated, he had already tweaked his hammies earlier in the season.

Added: He's listed as 5' 11" and 213 #'s. That's not a "slim" build. It's a build that can put a lot of strain on your legs (quads, hammies, and calves).

Alcantara, Cease and Mullins. That would do.

Going to the game last Sunday and I look at the pennant/WS flags and it bothers me. There should be, to me, only one pennant flag and 4 WS flags. 2019 sticks out the most, but so does 2018.

~egon

I have never understood why they don't put a flag for the pennant on the years they won the WS. They still won the pennant, you don't lose that because you won the series.

I guess they're going for symmetry? Three pennant and 2 WS flags vs. 5 pennant and 2 WS?

I agree, we put the divison flags up, why not pennant?

~egon

At the stadium we only put the division flags up on years we didn't win the pennant or WS… the 90s, 2004, 2018, 2020, 2023, 2024 etc

I would find it weird if we hung multiple pennants for the same season. Obviously, if you won the WS then you won the pennant.

Yeah I love their format of one per season. Navy for just playoffs, red for pennant and gold for WS. It's easy to track and doesn't overcrowd it

I think they would only trade him if the offer is huge. He's got 4.5 years of control left!

When it was already damaged and medical staff put a bandage on it.

Very likely. Same thing with Jake.

Our medical team is trash. I get that we want to win now but rest days are important

I suspect there was some damage (and risk) from the early hammy issue he had and he wasn't going full out since. And it just popped.

Jake's looked weird. Either he tried to play through something that he hid or something freaky happened running out to the field. He was able to walk off so I can't imagine it was an Achilles but I wonder if that's what it was.

I'm trusting the plan but ready for Dana Brown's "We like who we have, we have the players to win it all, we just need to execute" after we pick up no one else.

Also, I would like to add, we have the players needed to win it all, but they're all at the Club Med health spa known as the Astros Training Facility having their injuries treated with activated copper bracelets and geodes.

Hasn't it been explicitly said that the first hamstring issue was one side and the one that popped was the other?

I get wanting to dunk on the medical staff but this is not the instance.

Talks, however, remain ongoing. Houston is also still pursuing starting pitching, but some are worried the club could lose a bidding war in competition for Dylan Cease or Sandy Alcantara. If that happens, the Astros could pivot and to add a right-handed leverage reliever.

Lol, make all of the above happen, and bring back Carlos too, or this thread will throw a temper tantrum

lol all of that could happen and you will still get a temper tantrum. That's what makes this thread so fun.

Agreed about dunking on the medical staff, but hurting one hamstring can lead to damaging the other one due to over compensation.

"Even after acquiring Ramn Uras from the Baltimore Orioles, the Astros remain interested in upgrading their lineup, according to sources briefed on their plans. One option is still a reunion with Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa, who is guaranteed $96 million through the next three seasons and would have to waive his no-trade clause.
Correa told reporters on Wednesday night that talks with the Astros were "not something that I think is serious right now"and sources from both teams downplayed the likelihood of a trade. Talks, however, remain ongoing. Houston is also still pursuing starting pitching, but some are worried the club could lose a bidding war in competition for Dylan Cease or Sandy Alcantara. If that happens, the Astros could pivot and to add a right-handed leverage reliever."

I'll always contend that the 4 we played in evened out.

We won one we should have against Philly
We won one we shouldn't have against LA

We lost one we should have against Atlanta
We lost one we shouldn't have against Wash

If I had to pick 2 cities to beat out of those 4 it would be LA and Philly.

Were you not an Astros fan in the late 90s? There is no team on earth I would rather win a WS against than Atlanta, to purge all that heartbreak from the 1997, 98, 99, and 01 playoff beatdowns they gave us.

The fact that we didn't win it all in 2019 is absurd

That's still the one that will haunt us.

Couldn't disagree more about Philly. We won 106 games. Swept the mariners. Swept the Yankees. Had 2 aces in JV and Framber and a stacked lineup. We absolutely didn't sneak one away in 2022.

Reread it. The LA one is the one "we shouldn't have". But I am not really sure why.

Oof. I did read that wrong.

BadAggie, you've been trashing this thread a lot the past couple of weeks. Deserved or not, there's also been a lot of great conversation.

Enjoy the fun of hot stoves and fall baseball, brother!

Astros are talking to a certain team about a cheap veteran catcher.

Makes me wonder if either the Marlins or Padres are wanting Diaz or Caratini as part of the deal.

As just got the #3 overall prospect in baseball. 18-year-old phenom. Plus defender at SS, switch hitter, etc. This is the kind of gem you have to give up to get 4.5 years of elite closing on the cheap.
