There are pros and cons for all parties, but imo the pros outweigh the cons for all parties. Yes, we see the Soto, Ohtani, Seager, Harper, Betts style of contracts that are 10+ years and hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars, but what is that, 5% or less of the league? Soto's contract is completely ridiculous and stupid too. The odds say most guys should take the money when it's presented to them. Additionally, I think people need to remember that some of these contracts for young dudes are partly just buying those guys out of their arbitration years. Again sure, you could play it out and try to get 30 million a year like Soto through Arb, but that's the outlier. If you just sign the money in front of you, not only are you then guaranteed 100 million over 6+ years, you also don't have to go through the stupid process of arbitration. Last thing is that if you are a good player at the end of that 6-8 year deal, you just then negotiate for another 100-200 million dollar contract over another 6 years. Boom, you've now made 250 million dollars by the time you're 35 on the high end and on the low end you've made 100 million and some change if it doesn't work out.
