I can agree with that! Since 2016, this is only the second time we have played meaningful September baseball. I will choose to be miserable after each loss and other teams should be even more miserable after they lose to the Rangers. I do try not to think about all the games this team blew when the full roster was available.

For the past two months, when we needed our $40 million pitcher to step up, he's essentially **** the bed by either giving up too many runs or by only going 5 innings. It's simply not good enough.
Won a WS with him sidelined, let's put that $40 towards a bat or five.
There isn't a pitcher in the league that could win consistently with the lack of run support that de Grom has been getting. Unless he somehow prevents them from hitting with RISP...

Not asking for him to win every time out, but there's been 3 or 4 games since the all star break that we needed him to nut up and go 7 or even 8 innings…and he simply can't do it.
$40 million should get you more than 5 innings and/or 90 pitches every 5 days out.

No disagreement from me with the "we're not getting a reasonable return on our investment" argument. But since we were well aware of the possible/likely limitations of his return from TJ surgery, why haven't we addressed the bullpen? Or why are we not placing more blame on Joc's contract if we're talking about ROI? It doesn't matter if he pitches 8 innings every outing with a sub-3.0 ERA, we're still going to lose if our bats don't produce supporting runs and the bullpen blows it late every time.

Bullpens get stressed when they have to cover 3+ innings every time deGrom takes the mound.

You're not wrong about stressing the bullpen. Firing on the Ranger's current issues is a decidedly target rich environment.

I understand what you're saying, and HB's day will hopefully come for him after several ARB years.
Last night degrom got out-pitched and out-toughed by HB. Fact. The season is coming down to a few games and he let the team down last night, and has for several weeks.
When you command that salary, you're all but guaranteeing that you will deliver excellence to the franchise. 3 years and $120 million later, he's not even close to delivering that. Had another chance last night and failed.
DeGrom was just ok, certainly wasn't elite, but it's apples to oranges. Look at the lineups - Altuve, Alvarez, Pena, and Correa are all better than anything in our lineup. Much harder to keep them scoreless vs our team of triple A players

Blue has also given Corbin a couple of strikes on pitches that were clearly not a strike, and we are just in the second inning. So blue just isn't good today, so far at least.
I don't know if we'll make up ground on the mariners today…
