The Ray's must hate playing us. We really have their number.

Have we only had one off day so far?

Yes.

The MLB schedule has been jacked up this year. Only about half the teams played last Sunday, and theb this week, I think two teams were off on Friday. I know the Astros/Twins played Thursday but then didn't play again until yesterday. Maybe they're trying to build in some days for inclement weather, I don't know but it's been goofy.

Unbelievable by the guys at the bottom of the order. Hats off to them!

I'm not going to worry about the offense until about the month mark. I just think it can take time for offenses to click and catch up to pitchers. That being said, there are some trends I would watch; not seeing enough pitches/quick outs and innings, and not recognizing what pitchers are trying to do to them right now.

Josh Smith is that dude! This team needs him playing every day. I don't wish an injury on anyone but I'm almost sad Jung is coming back Tuesday. Hopefully we can get some DH days for Seager and Semien.

Hard to fathom a better utility infielder than Josh Smith.

Rangers at 8-2 with a run diff of -1.
Yankees at 6-3 with a run diff of +31.

I'm elated and concerned.

Not sustainable unless the bats really good going obviously. It's so weird watching my rangers with a legit pitching staff.

We are 5-0 in one run games.

Tiniest of tiny things to notice, but:

After Smith slid into home for winning run, whole dugout ran to mob Jonah at 2B. Smith was left alone at home plate as he got up to to join the celebration. Semien turns away from the group running to Heim to run to high five Smith and tell him nice job.

Think he's such a good leader and I am very glad CY has made an effort to bring in guys like him + Evo and the other vets.

In one of the post-game interviews... he looked completely gassed. Looked like my FIL sucking on his oxygen.

That actually seems like the norm for walk offs unless it's a homerun. Usually the on deck guy will celebrate with the guy who scores but then they all race to the batter.

I've noticed that sometimes his voice sounds weak and other times he sounds pretty good. Also, I was listening to Nadel and Hicks Friday night on Apple TV and noticed Hicks does most of the commentary. I know they've always split but it seemed like Hicks did about 75% of the PBP.

A 14-3 outlier kind of skews that. It'll even itself out

I'd be much more worried if it was because the wins were all 10-9 vs 1-0 and 4-3. The offense will start to come around. The fact that we have this record in spite of our offensive underperformance is extremely encouraging.

Agree. We're 8-2 with virtually nothing from the big bats so far. Saw a stat during the broadcast today that we were top 3 in baseball in hard hit outs. The scoring will come

Yeah the bats will heat up. Too many proven hitters in the lineup to be too concerned about that.

In the meantime, these wins in April count to the total as much as the ones in September. Just keep stacking them up however you can.

A lot of future playoff teams have really good March/Aprils and Mays.

At 0.192, the Rangers are dead last in BA in MLB.

If you take out Rocker's 3IP of 6 R ball... our SP have an ERA of like 1.74 ... best in MLB. As is, we're like 3rd with a 2.68. Overall P is 5th with a 2.93.

Now, are both numbers playing to weather and early season... and will they both move to the middle? Maybe, but I like it.

Sub 3.00 ERA is my kind of baseball.

We went to Friday's game and game time was like 2hrs 15min. In controlled mid-70s temp and no rain.

Speaking of scheduling, I just noticed that Cleveland has yet to play a home game through a few series. Weird way to start their year. Every other team has had some by now.

Vlad Guerrero and Blue Jays agree to 14 yr / $500 Mill Contract paying him through his Age 40 Season

He's 26 and 6'2" & 245 lbs…the back 2/3 of this are going to be tough I would think

When he hits 31-32 it's going to get ugly imo. I wouldn't have given him a second over a 10 year deal. Would've preferred 7, but that's not how it works apparently.

Blue Jay's gunna Blue Jay.

He has maybe 4 more yrs. No chance he is 245. Probably closer to 265.

Im not even sure he's worth the 35.5 and some change that he got. He's had essentially 1.5 really good (or great) seasons, and while his peak is absolutely worth that money, I just don't know if he's done it enough. He's the poster child for a guy I'd be more than fine giving a 5x150 deal, but because it's baseball being baseball he gets 14x500. Makes sense….

The big Vlad Jr contract got me going down the Vlad Guererro Sr rabbit hole.

Vlad Sr had a 44 game hitting streak against the Rangers from 2004 to 2006. I hated the guy.

He was the premier "bad ball" hitter. He'd swing at anything. In 2008, he swung at 45% of the pitches thrown to him outside the strike zone.,

Here he is hitting a ball that bounced in front of the plate for a single.

They were renovating their stadium so that might have something to do with it. That and the weather sucks in Cleveland.
fc2112
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The bad weather teams typically start with two road series.

Cleveland starting with three on the road is a bit unusual. Detroit opened with two on the road, as did Minnesota and the Cubs.

Rangers get Justin Steele today, who's been pretty poor to start the year and has given up a five homers already. Bad news is that it's a 6:40 PM gametime and going to be about 35 degrees and decreasing at gametime. Pretty much the worst baseball weather possible. Knowing how we play in the cold I wouldn't expect a ton tonight.
