Season and silver boot on the line. Major choke job going on in Houston right now. Really really pathetic

We're down our best pitcher and 2 of our 3 best hitters. If we're being honest we're very fortunate to have meaningful baseball to watch on September 16th. The damage was done for this season a long time ago even with the guys mentioned above at full strength

It feels like the Astros know what pitch is coming. Just saying.

110% of the blame for this season falls at the feet of the offense and there isn't a close second.

I think Josh Jung may be at the top of my list of biggest disappointments this season. I knew what adolis was after last year, didn't expect much from Joc, Semien is aging. Jung was hitting well for the first few games last year before he got hit by maton. I thought that really hurt the club. Turns out he was just not great.

As much as people talked about the expected offense, thus team was built around pitching and defense. Arms and speed at all 3 OF positions. Strong up the middle. Solid backup infielder.

The problem is that it made it really difficult to upgrade offensively. Everywhere you look on the field, you see a plus defender and an average bat. When you spend big money, you want to be upgrading an average defender with a crappy bat. Everything about this offense said "stand pat."

This off-season is the time to change. This team needs to figure out where to shuffle the pieces they have, without wrecking the defense, and making a place for signing an actual dude to go alongside Seager. Add another up-tick for Langford, and see what happens.

The other thing - Helman is 29. I could be wrong, but I think he's figured it out, and may be a late bloomer like Adolis. I like the bat speed, and I could see him going on a 5 year 20/20 run.

Given where we started that inning, I'll take going into the 9th only down 1 and Abreu already having thrown to 3 batters all day long…but we've gotta finish the comeback.

Complete microcosm of the season. Another one run loss. Good fight but once again not enough.

Langford needs to get back in the lab this offseason and work on identifying pitches. I find it hard to believe there is anybody in the league close to him as far as striking out looking.

He has a problem. He is top 10 in the league in walk%, but too often he looks more like Joey Gallo than Joey Votto.

Yep they made the 2 plays they had to make. Abreu was really locked in tonight. Our guys did well batting .400 against him, but wasn't enough.

I think he'll get better. But he has to hammer mistakes early in the count. Strike 1 was a get-ahead slider right in his wheelhouse.

Tomorrow is the first true "must win" of the season. Feels like that phrase has been used a million times this year and yet we still found a way to hang around in the race. Don't think that's the case if you lose tomorrow.

Yep, win or bust. Win tomorrow, and they have tiebreakers over HOU, CLE, and BOS, and would have to get even with at least 2 of them. Have to go 8-2 over these last 10, and assume that includes tomorrow, and a series win against CLE...and hope it's enough. SEA still out there, pending outcome of HOU series.

Just being realistic, that's just not gonna happen. This team is not good on the road and Cleveland will probably be ahead of us for the last series up there. I want it to happen as bad as anyone, but the last two years have shown us that this offense is just not consistent enough to be counted on.

Sure, you're probably right, but I said 87 2 months ago, and until they have no chance at getting 87, there is still life.

Good fight, but end of the day it's tough to watch this rag-tag batting lineup and expect that they can get it done routinely. There's only so many times career 0.240 hitters are going to get a clutch hit.

Still alive if we win tonight. Tiebreaker, get to 3 GB, Seattle may very well roll into Houston and win 3 while we take on Miami.

1-0 tonight.
