Just got home as well. Amazing atmosphere.

It was fun until it wasn't. Then it was fun again until it wasn't.

I also want to apologize and eat some crow on wanting DeRosa to be the skipper here. I get that he's in a tough spot with having to make sure all of the pitchers get the work their teams require, but that lineup was rough tonight. Especially in a game you had to have to punch your ticket.
Just making sure you see this, then…

that's nuts. If I'm looking at it correctly, if Italy loses to Mexico in a low scoring game then USA is most likely out. USA has the worst ERA currently, but I didn't bother looking up earned runs per defensive inning yet. Stats for the tie breakers aren't easy to find.

It's simmering along the lines of if Mexico scores 6 or more runs regardless of they win out lose, USA advances. Of course, if Italy wins, USA advances regardless of score.

Oh yeah, and the dude playing trumpet in the 400s near left field was awesome.

So it boils down to we want either an Italy win or for Mexico to score more than 4 runs regardless of who wins, correct?

Not just 4 runs, they must be earned- right? Total runs is the next tie breaker if earned runs per defensive inning doesn't solve it.

And this also doesn't consider extra innings. But it's a good general guide.

The US shouldn't even be in this predicament. Derosa is a ****ing idiot for not playing our best players. He thought we had already clinched. So stupid.

Yall sure are acting like the WBC matters a lot. Maybe we should have sent Brown to help team USA out.

WBC would matter more if so many teams weren't full of American-born players.

FIFY

That's the only way to make it viable

Reduce the field and change the format. Could be more like the four nations event that the NHL had.

I had fun last night but I wont lie I didn't find myself upset that we lost. It was just cool to see basically an all star team playing (minus Bregman and good pitching)

Was fun to see Mason Miller dominate for an inning not against Houston

Because he has to attend to a personal matter?

I agree, but that has nothing to do with being away for a personal matter. Extensions don't always work. We've gotten burned with him, McCullers, the final one (earlier ones were good) for Yuli and Brantley, and I'd wager the Altuve too.

LOL - Yoshia for Paredes

Houston Astros
The Red Sox and Astros have been dancing around each other in trade talks for seemingly the entire offseason. And it's not hard to figure why: Boston is full up on left-handed outfielders, which the Astros could desperately use, while Houston has a surplus of righty infielders that would make sense for the Sox.
Most of the chatter has focused on Duran or Abreu, but why not Yoshida? Sure, the price tag might be a bit more than Jim Crane is looking to stomach. That said, if Duran and Abreu are off the table (understandable, given how hard it is to make the value work in a trade), Yoshida is an above-average lefty bat that would lengthen Houston's lineup and survive well enough in the tiny left-field confines of Daikin Park.

Yoshida for Paredes. They may as well have said "Houston has chosen to just gift Paredes to Boston for free as a sign of good will"

I would personally lead the fire Dana protest if this one for one trade happened

Paredes for Yoshia?? How about no.

Have the Red Sox said there is no package at all that they'll take for Duran?

I wouldn't hate to add Yoshida. Something like Paredes plus Spaghetti for Duran and Yoshida.

They are not going to swap Paredes for Yoshida - at least not straight up.

Boston's asking price for Duran/Abreu is still astronomically high.

What would the hypothetical Duran trade look like? I'm guessing Paredes and two of our top prospects?

The problem with Yoshida, besides being overpaid, is that he's another Yordan type. He needs to DH, play a limited amount in the OF, and gets injured more than you care for. The difference is that Yordan is 100x the hitter Yoshida is.

Yoshida is a negative value contract. He should be traded heads up for someone like Walker, but even then, I'd probably take the Walker side of the deal. That is why it is laughable that someone would suggest Paredes for Yoshida. If Yoshida is included in a deal, it should be to lower the ask for Duran/Abreu since he's still owed 36 M for a projected 1.0 fWAR over the next 2 seasons.

Or the value is growing. I really like Isaac. I've gone back and forth on this a million times. I wish there were a simpler path.

Isaac is one of the very few players we have that can (or will) work a pitch count. Would love to keep him, but man we've cornered ourselves into a situation where we don't know exactly where he'll play. That's not good. I really wish we could have traded Walker but that boat has apparently sailed.

One thing I'll give Dana credit for (for now) is that he hasn't given in and traded Paredes for a bag of peanuts. He seems to be holding firm.

Would LOVE to work a deal and bring Duran here. But apparently Boston is asking way too much.....

yeah if it was an easy call then it likely would've been done by now. We'll see which team he opens the year with. I'm hoping it's ours.

Tuve and Cole with solo shots is also a sight for sore eyes.

Zach Cole hits absolute rockets. Today's game.
  • 114.2 EV - GIDP - no xBA listed, but a 5 LA with that kind of velo I would estimate well over .500
  • 109.1 EV - HR - only 21 LA, absolute piss missile.

Imai looks really good so far. Another great outing. Fastball velocity is up to 96.7 Avg. He topped out at 98.5 in his 3rd spring training outing. Save some of that for the regular season.

There is another path but it would take Crane to say yes. All it would take is $20MM in cash. Someone would take Walker if we ponied up cash to cover a chuck of his salary.

Actually maybe not that much. With a work stoppage looming next year you may only be on the hook for Walker's salary for 2026.

Here are the options on how to handle it
  • Trade him and add LHH in the OF
  • Keep him, juggle playing time, risk a bad clubhouse
  • Trade/buyout Walker
  • An injury
  • Bench Walker
None of those are easy, simple, or fun.
Mathguy64

Money plus Walker would solve it. It's just a matter of how much $$.

The ceiling is Walker and $40MM. The floor is Walker and $0. Somewhere in the is the Goldilocks amount.
