not every player is like Altuve and wants to have a one team legacy. Most times if a player wants to sign he will, but the team only has so much leverage unless they go above and beyond (which Crane no likey). You're always getting the most value on pre-arb core pieces, who knows the next time we'll have one of those.EABC_AG said:
Reading about the Astros not even approaching Abreu with an extension opportunity… I get there is injury risk with him, but it does seem like the Astros have backed off doing any extensions the last couple of years.
Would love to see us eventually get back to locking up players past their arbitration years

thankfully our pitching development has been much more successful than the position player side. We will reload after he leaves, IMOFarmer1906 said:EABC_AG said:

I love Abreu but he makes no sense to sign him. We have already committed 95 M to a closer and we have 2 more years of it after Abreu is a FA. Abreu is going to go get closer money on the free market. And with his past workload, I worry about injury risk in the future.
Brice Matthews will get some run in left field during tonight’s Grapefruit League game, Joe Espada said. That is interesting.

Joe Espada was doing a lot of hands on work with Isaac Paredes at second base before today's game, helping him position himself better in some of Houston's shifts against left-handed hitters. Paredes just started a nice 4-6-3 double play against lefty José Rojas.

Wouldn't make sense to trade for Loperfido and then return him to the minors.

Abreu would look so good in an Astros uni.
