The cocked eyebrow was just a "why not just say the start is delayed by weather"?

Regarding Paredes...

Is it expected for him to get playtime at 1st, 2nd, and 3rd this year? If so, what's the load expectation when he does play? Equal at all 3 positions or mostly 2nd or 3rd?

Altuve might benefit from a greater number of off days than what he got in past years. Whats Paredes' range look like compared to Altuve if he fills in on Altuve's off days?

Correra can slide over to SS on Pena's off days and Paredes can play 3rd. He obviously can play 3rd on Correra's off days.

Think too many people see the Astros infield as a logjam rather than a luxury. Of course, that statement relies on Paredes' ability to play other positions as well as he plays 3rd.

Reading about the Astros not even approaching Abreu with an extension opportunity… I get there is injury risk with him, but it does seem like the Astros have backed off doing any extensions the last couple of years.

Would love to see us eventually get back to locking up players past their arbitration years

not every player is like Altuve and wants to have a one team legacy. Most times if a player wants to sign he will, but the team only has so much leverage unless they go above and beyond (which Crane no likey). You're always getting the most value on pre-arb core pieces, who knows the next time we'll have one of those.

I love Abreu but he makes no sense to sign him. We have already committed 95 M to a closer and we have 2 more years of it after Abreu is a FA. Abreu is going to go get closer money on the free market. And with his past workload, I worry about injury risk in the future.

thankfully our pitching development has been much more successful than the position player side. We will reload after he leaves, IMO

We will but he also have raw talent that a lot of our guys do not. We need to invest in guys with a little more velo.

Paredes: 7 Ks, 3 BBs in 17 ABs
Walker: 6 Ks, 3 BBs in 23 ABs

Ha. Just stirring the pot with selective stats. But it does show why you can't worry too much about small sample sizes in ST.

Really crazy seeing "C. Biggio" in the Astros' box score after all this time.

Why wouldn't he? We're going to carry 4-5 outfielders and the competition ain't that strong.

Alvarez
Meyers
Smith
Cole
Loperfido

Unless we think Dezenzo will make it over him. No one else really comes to mind.

I guess I don't consider him an outfielder. He has no spot in the INF tho.

Wouldn't make sense to trade for Loperfido and then return him to the minors.

Mostly agree but if they did then it would prove that move to be a salary dump.
