I didn't think Cam was ready, but was kind of forced to play up due to injury. I also think he could have benefited from time in SL.

Just a bummer of a season. Just when it feels like the starting pitching is turning the corner a little bit, the offense doesn't follow through.

The only thing keeping me in it is we're only 5.5 games behind at the moment.

Still an opportunity to win a series.

Yeah there's no great solution. Being an aging .500 team with no farm is tough. The more I think about it, HB seems like the guy you have to move. First, every team needs a SP for a playoff run so competition should be good to pick your best option. Second, pitchers get hurt so often. If HB needs TJ in the next 12 months he's basically worthless. By the time he gets healthy again he's a free agent. That both torpedos any minimal hope you have for winning AND eliminates your best trade piece.

I know ya'll are going to have fun beating this horse all season, but Jim Crane has never fired someone mid-season. If the team was healthy and performing like this...maybe? But the team isn't and Jim sees that.

After the season it is highly likely both him and Brown are gone, though, and that likely will signal a full rebuild.

You need to play MLB capable players on an MLB team in order to have a competitive ballclub. People get time in AAA for various reasons. There may not be space, mostly. the minor leagues are a space to gain experience if there's none available, or the team doesn't want to risk playing them in a position just yet because they have better options and may want to develop them a bit and keep them in their back pocket to trade.

I don't know why you need to make a move. What's done is done. The team is what it is. I'd only hire a new manager if it seemed like some massive improvement was on the market to be had and this was a window of opportunity but I don't see that.

Maybe Cora, arguably, but he's seemingly not on the market.

You're saying Cam Smith is not a good player because he's not adapting and that there is no better experience than MLB experience.

He was playing NCAA baseball in 2023 and 2024, and only had 134 PAs in minor league ball, of which 20 were AA and the rest were A. Even Trout came up, went back down to AAA for 93 PAs and then came back up to MLB ball. Cam Smith is not Trout, but even Trout needed the AAA time.

My only point is Cam Smith needed AAA time.

Anyway, not going to argue on this beautiful day!

If you know you are firing Joe at the end of the season anyway and think Omar might be a guy you would consider, then giving him a 6 month audition as the interim manager to see how he operates is a no lose situation.
