1 game out of 10 Brice plays like an MVP. It's the other 9 games that are putrid

If you had told me that in February I'd assume he had a good opening week and then got hurt for the duration of that

Anybody ask Joe why Astros pitching doesn't headhunt the first Boston hitter after Walker got taken out?

$18,000,000 - Imai
$17,000,000 - McCullers
$12,800,000 - Javier

It was either him or Burrows.

We will see how long he can sustain a sub 2 ERA while walking 5.5 guys per 9.

1a and 1b between him and Kevin Alvarez. Infielder and outfielder, so hopefully they can move through the system together.

And I see now that Alvarez also homered today

Cam needed a full season in SL last year. He never got that chance and it been evident for a year.

There's no better experience than MLB experience. If he doesn't adapt, it means he's just not a good player.

I don't think him getting SL experience last year would have translated to a better player this year, actually the opposite.

If someone is not ready, that is not a true statement. Otherwise why not start each draftee straight in MLB?

I didn't think Cam was ready, but was kind of forced to play up due to injury. I also think he could have benefited from time in SL.

You need to play MLB capable players on an MLB team in order to have a competitive ballclub. People get time in AAA for various reasons. There may not be space, mostly. the minor leagues are a space to gain experience if there's none available, or the team doesn't want to risk playing them in a position just yet because they have better options and may want to develop them a bit and keep them in their back pocket to trade.

You're saying Cam Smith is not a good player because he's not adapting and that there is no better experience than MLB experience.

He was playing NCAA baseball in 2023 and 2024, and only had 134 PAs in minor league ball, of which 20 were AA and the rest were A. Even Trout came up, went back down to AAA for 93 PAs and then came back up to MLB ball. Cam Smith is not Trout, but even Trout needed the AAA time.

My only point is Cam Smith needed AAA time.

Anyway, not going to argue on this beautiful day!

I'm not saying Cam isn't a good player. He's very good defensively.

I'm simply saying that getting reps in at the major league level is going to be better than minor leagues and that if he were in sugar land I doubt the situation would have changed anything at all. You don't develop against major league pitching in the minors. If a team feels like they have better major league options on the roster that's more of a reason to send somebody back down temporarily.

But for the Astros, they don't have better options, so give him as much major league experience as possible and hope he figures things out. The jury is still out on him, but it's certainly possible that the skills he had to be very good in NCAA won't translate into the majors. Happens all the time where hot prospects simply can't break through. Obviously hope that's not the case and not giving up hope or anything. At worst he's still a major league player just not a particularly great one offensively.

I hesitate to use the comparison because it seems lazy based on them both being the same race but look at Jordan Walker. He was brought up super fast by the Cards and looked like hot ace for 3 seasons. Now at age 24 he's breaking out. I've never thought bringing guys up too fast would "break" them. Either they will figure it out or they won't.

GOAT REPORT 5-3-26

Jose Altuve played in his 2007th career game, passing former Astro Cesar Cedeno for 250th all-time. If he gets to 150 games played this year, he'll be inside the top 200 all-time.

He also topped 8,000 career at-bats yesterday, surpassing Lou Gehrig in that category. Only 154 players have gotten to 8,000 at-bats. He needs 41 more to get into the top 150 all time. Pete Rose is #1 with a hilarious 14,053.

Jose also entered the top 150 all-time in runs scored with his 1,257, tying him with Ozzie Smith for 150th all-time. He has 21 for the season and is on pace for 100. If he keeps that pace, he would end 2026 inside the top 120.

Jose also entered the top 100 in doubles this week, and is now tied with Reggie Jackson at 99th with 463.

I'm really curious to see what Dana can do with a full draft allotment to work with this year and the extra draft pick.

Are Cole and Dezenzo still rehabbing?

I wonder if the team wishes they had kept Chas around. For reference, he has not made it to the Cubs big league roster, yet, in 2026. .903 OPS with 4 homers in 65 ABs in AAA

Dezenzo .939 OPS in 35 PA in AA/AAA & Cole has a .896 OPS in 37 PA in A/AAA. Time to bring them up.

This org needs a freaking sense of urgency. Both should be immediate upgrades.

35+ PA seems like a long rehab assignment for a hitter. Wow.

Walker started his Astros tenure by playing hurt, when he probably should have stayed back in Spring Training to get back to 100% and get more reps.
