He's just not a good pitcher. Our brilliant GM let the Pirates turn this bum into Brandon Lowe.

I feel for all 6,000 people watching the Mariners officially take the season series in mid-May. Hopefully we can get that number down low enough to get someone canned?

We can fire all the people we want, it isn't changing what this team is and might even hamstring making the moves necessary to make it great again.

I'll bite. How will getting rid of Espada hamstring us?

Yes I am curious how getting rid of clueless Joe will hamstring us ? Please describe

Letting Dana Brown run another draft and deadline is what will hamstring the inevitable rebuild from ashes.
Yes having an inexperienced GM running the draft is a recipe for success. And if you fire Dana it's more likely you just stand pat and not trade anyone, which would be a disaster

Outside of the Janak pick, Dana hasn't drafted too bad

I'm referring to Dana. Firing Joe is just irrelevant. Do it or don't, I couldn't care less. The team is what it is either way. I'm guessing brass waits until we get healthy to fire him so it appears the new guy is smarter when in reality it's because he has HB, Peña and Hader instead of scrub 1, 2, and 3.

As soon as Joey Baseball or Preppy is healthy, Cam needs to go down and figure things out.

I think that Espada has to be tied to the performance of the offense the last few years (the decision to hang onto Cintron/Snitker…refusing to move on) and through that, ignoring everything that was wrong with the pitching b/c you had some great individual performers…Josh Miller seems less than worthless, at this point.

Also, at some point, you have to lay the injuries at the feet of Espada and his staff since they just keep happening and it's hard to believe that this staff has simply had awful luck with health (on a historic basis) for his 2+ seasons at the helm. Clearly, there's a problem with the prep work being done.

I think of it like this…if you fire Espada and Josh Miller; do you think either of those guys will be managing an MLB team or pitching staff ever again? (I could see Joe doing it on an interim basis after the manager he is a bench coach for getting fired).

Injuries aren't an excuse for anyone. Everyone from the Braves to the Jays to the Dodgers has or has had multiple regulars injured. The fact that what they leave the Astros with is unplayable garbage fill-ins is a direct indictment of Dana Brown's roster construction and lack of any viable depth added at the AAA level.

The fact that they're so damn awful to watch is what we can put on Espada. Ho-hum, low-energy, allergic to meaningful change, and so on.

I think you keep Dana for now. Let him do his thing in the draft. Outside Janek, he's done fairly well. Then, you let Dana go at the end of the season.

Espada needs to go. See if Omar Lopez can get them to just do... something. Getting rid of Espada would show that you need to provide results to stay. This team needs some kind of fire lit under their butts because at this point, the standard day-to-day operations are not working.

Cesar Salazar, O/U 2.5 wild pitches/passed balls

Not sure what the total count is, but i just watched him let one by and have the ump block it for him with his shin guard. I'm sure he appreciated that! (I'm a few behind so this didn't just happen)

I think it is very likely we have a new GM and a new coach next year. I just don't see how you don't do it.

Getting blown out of games seems to have become the norm and not the exception for 2026.

It's hard to overstate how bad Luis Castillo has been but the fact that he waltzed into this empty stadium and almost put up a QS on these trash cans really speaks to how dead in the water this team truly is. To state the obvious.

And the fact that Braden Shewmake is their best hitter should be an indictment of several someones.

The point of a change in leadership somewhere right now is to signal you haven't completely written off the season on May 14. It's why the Phillies let go of Thomson. Unless you have written off the season on May 14. In which case, I hope the bottom really falls out.

Yeah you just don't fire a GM midseason. I can't think of the last time that happened that wasn't due to some sort of scandal. You can fill in a fired manager internally or even pull one off the scrap heap because, candidly, they aren't as important as everyone thinks they are and any eff ups they make have almost no long term repercussions.

No viable depth comes from the lack of draft picks and the young prospects traded away.

Losing Clifford and Gilbert for JV further depleted our depth -- then trading Melton. Having 4 picks in the 2020 draft hurt. Losing first and second round picks in 2020 and 2021 hurt.

Yet, here we are.

He's had 600 ML ABs. He should have been sent down last year. He should have never started in the bigs. I'm not sure what sending him down now is going to do to "fix" him.

Put him in an environment where he can learn from coaches dedicated to helping young players become better major leaguers? Isn't that what the minor leagues are for?

I'm not certain he's going to be much more than what you see. He's looking more and more like another below average OFer. We have a lot of them.

I still don't think Joe is going anywhere mid-season BUT I think Texas has a good chance of putting the nail in his coffin.

If this team continues to trend like it has then I could see the off day between the MIN and CHI series as the day it happens.

I was 17 in 1991 when the team went 65-97. I went to about 15-20 home games and it was a lot of fun because they were young and starting over. In the summer that team won 9 straight including an outrageous 4 straight walkoffs. This ain't that.

One thing to keep in mind on Burrows is he is a product of our poor farm system. We did not have the prospects to trade for a guy like Peralta. Dana gambled on a back-end starter he hoped he could squeeze a little juice out of and maybe get #3 starter production. It hasn't worked but the point is we weren't ever going to be able to trade for the real #2 we needed.
