And could be more of a true bench player with the surplus of infielders we once had.

Subbing for Yordan.

I get tired of hearing about they have so many games in so many days, it's baseball. You spend most of the game standing waiting for something to happen. You shouldn't be that tired.

I agree completely. Unless you are a pitcher, there is zero reason to load manage or rest as often as they do. A player might all out sprint 5-10 times per game at most.

What a weak, pathetic display by the ownership, front office, managers/coaches, players. And, I'm not talking about just today.

Just pathetic all around today.

Expected. And if history is anything to look at, he's done until August. Minimum.

Just another day at the office for the Astros and the IL.

With next year looking to not be a season, you've got to blow it up this deadline. Tank and get a top 5 pick in 2027 draft.

Does the draft order repeat if there is no season at all?

From the draft talking heads I've heard from, there is a near 0% chance the draft gets cancelled. So assuming there is one and no CBA at the time is in place, I'd guess they go based off the old rules. I can't see any way the owners from teams that sucked in 2026 taking up in the A by getting screwed on draft order.

All that said, I highly doubt next season will be missed entirely. MLB is making too much money to let that happen and kill momentum. I could see missing a month or two but not a full season.

The problem is our division. The A's are losing as we speak so a loss by them means we are only 5 games back. My biggest fear is we hang around 6 or 7 games back well into July and brass just stands pat while the A's and mermen improve at the deadline with better trade assets. We just fade away in August and September while one or both of them turn on the gas.

Just send Yankees front office Bryan Abreu 2022 postseason highlights and hope they don't know he sucks now.

Flip him for two prospects

I did the math, and even if the Astros were to somehow win 2 out of every 3 games (win every series), they wouldn't get to .500 until the 78th game of the year (39-39).

I hate Altuve being out, but I'm interested in seeing Brice at 2B. He's been a dynamo in CF.

and 39-39 may put them in first place in this division

Exactly…it's not like we'd be firing a Hall of Fame coach with a bad run of injury luck and that's the only reason why he's losing. We'd be firing a coach who has never accomplished anything and has shown no signs of being able to elevate his team in 2+ years. Why not give Lopez a free trial the rest of this year?

There is literally no downside to that, which is why we won't do it. We only make moves that ballance low upside with huge potential downside.

The Dodgers have as many players on the IL as the Astros do, why aren't they second to last in their league?

Why does every team ahead of the Astros on this list have a better record? https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/article/most-injured-mlb-teams-ranked-by-severity-score-111870

That list bases severity based on length of DL stint. So if Nick Allen got hurt and went on the 60-day, we'd jump a lot of teams. For instance, Detroit's includes their top prospect. That only hurts because it was potential depth. Not because he was a fixture in their lineup.

The number of guys hurt and how long they are hurt is only part of the story. Who is hurt is a much larger piece. Take a few starters out of the Phillies' rotation. Remove Duran from the pen. Take Marsh or Harper out of the lineup, plus maybe Turner and one more. Then put some of the potential replacements on the IL for a bit, too.

Most on this board had pretty modest to low predictions for a win total, and those were based on guys being healthy. Given the list of injuries in advance, I have a hard time believing any of you would have predicted much better than what we've seen so far.

Speak for yourself. I was under no illusion that our aging lineup would be healthier than when they were a year younger, hence my disappointment that we decided to do nothing to make our offense better (or younger) over the offseason. What has surprised me, and honestly been the reason for our horrid season so far was how far our rotation has fallen, and the inability Miller to pull the magic with some unknowns that Murphy seemed to do at will every season.

Arizona might be looking for a first baseman if any sellers have one.

If pitching coaches were that important then a Murphy would make $10M a year and whoever hired him would just sign the scraps leftover in free agency ever year. Yet no team does that.

And yet people throughout baseball used to marvel at how our "pitching lab" managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat multiple times per season when Murphy was here. And now that he is gone, we seem to have a max of about three guys who can actually reliably put a pitch into the strike zone with runners on base. The results speak for themselves…

There's a difference between what you can develop internally and turning free agent turds into mid rotation guys. Urquidy, Javier, etc were underrated. It might appear it was all Murphy and Miller but there's a whole system in place to identify those guys when they are young and develop them throughout the minors. What free agent turds have the Pirates turned into gold this year?

We still have some interesting guys who weren't high draft picks in the minors, the timing just isn't great as they are a year or two away.
