If there was ever a time to turn it on and say "we're not selling" you have to take 2/3 and 3/4 from Minneosta and Texas respectively, and in the same sentence can't get swept by the Cubs.
6-4 or 7-3 has to be the goal..5-5 or less and you start talking to buyers.
Pena is apparently going to play in 2 of the 3 in Minnesota so that is a start.

All three of our pitchers against the Twins have WHIPs above 1.50 and ERAs of 9.24, 6.86, and 5.72. So, there's that.

Then you maybe put together a few home series wins against milwaukee, pirates and A's (5-4 or 6-3 homestand)

YAAAAASSSSS! Incredibly Gen X of me I know but Hulk was absolutely my favorite as a kid and I'm about 98% sure that's not something I've ever posted on TA.
Also, Walker hitting >85 HR would be fun. We'd probably sign him to extension, only for him to permanently damage his shoulder and neck in a weird offseason incident with a pillow.

I just randomly though of Red Hulk this morning being furious at yesterday's whipping.
The funny thing is the prompt kept on getting rejected and it kept saying "third-party infringement" and I assumed it meant Marvel/The Hulk, but it was actually depicting "ESPADA" on an Astros jersey because apparently sports coaches/managers are some sensitivity scale with AI that doesn't let you depict them.

If there is any hope that this thing gets turned around this needs to be a 6-4 trip at a minimum. They have to stop the bleeding and chip away at the deficit.

He's crushing high A and is old for the level so this makes sense but the interesting thing is Janek is there. I can't help but think this kid has passed him on the brass' pecking order.
The Astros are promoting catching prospect Jason Schiavone to Double-A Corpus Christi. Schiavone, 23, slashed .289/.452/.766 in 168 plate appearances at High-A. His 17 home runs lead all of minor league baseball.

That was a really odd draft pick looking back. I know Crane has wanted high ceiling/low floor prospects but I never thought his ceiling was very high.

So is that mode of thinking coming from Crane? I have been criticizing that constant mode of thinking but was attributing the strategy to Dana Brown.
Dana has always been a fan of players with high ceilings and loud tools. A part of the reason Crane hired Dana was because of his eye for those kinds of players.
Crane wanted those types of players in the last few drafts. I'm not sure if Brown was told to draft them or if that was Dana's plan regardless but I know Crane wanted those types of guys.

What am I missing. Shouldn't every GM be looking for guys with high ceilings? That's not exactly an unusual strategy.
High ceiling/low floor.
Guys like Brice Matthews for example who have very loud tools but are very raw and have a wider range of outcomes than others.
Other guys may have a lower ceiling but much less bust potential and are seen as a "safer pick".

Think: Eric Anthony or Daryle Ward. if he figures it out, he's the next superstar. if he doesn't, well, he doesn't.
Yes Asheville is a hitter's park whereas CC is more neutral. The Atlantic League overall isn't necessarily a big hitter's league. Basically 3 parks are big hitters parks and everything else is neutral or pitcher friendly.linkdude said:

Man I really liked Daryle Ward. Wish it would have clicked for him. Dude had serious power.
My dad and I met him before the first ever game at Enron Field. The exhibition against the Yankees. My dad told him he's going to be the first Astro to hit a homer at Enron. Daryle laughed and said he just hopes to get a hit.
Sure enough Ward went deep and was the first Astro to do it. He saw us a few months later and gave my dad a big handshake and remembered the conversation. Really nice guy.

The issue is that if you don't hit, not only do ypu not get superstars, but you don't even have servicable players.

A long time ago I had two employees i used to compare to Berkman and Ward - one was a natural talent but only delivered in flashes; the other seemed to have less raw talent, but worked hard every day and delivered nonstop for years.
Would a Haco pick have a high enough ceiling? Not sure how much his power plays vs pure bat to ball skills, but wonder if this would be a steal if he drops to us.
