where do you stay? I just perused some VRBO's there and holy ****e... easily 3x the price of some other places for similar accomodations.

You're probs gonna drive through Vail if you want to swing through the shop if you need gear. If not, let's rock snowmass one day.

I found a place on VRBO and then reached out directly to the people who had it listed and saved a little bit, but its expensive. This is sort of a treat/splurge, plus its a larger place so it is partially subsidized by friends coming. I charged them a reasonable nightly rate because I doubt people would come for the actual nightly rate.

In hindsight, I could probably have booked earlier and gotten better bang for the buck but I think it will still be fun. Aspen is a blast.

nice. I wish I had more friends that skied - too rich more for most Texans' blood.

A nice place with a bunkroom for singles is ideal - finding some place with 4 BR and 4 kings/queens is a gdamn nightmare and packs a premium.

Have fun! I'll be up in WP next week!

I would get laughed at so hard at suggesting people sleep on the floor. Lol

Bunch of Nances I know. I can barely get people to share a bathroom these days. Married dudes and their high maintenance wives.

Four guys shared two king beds on our recent Whitefish trip. My wife and her friends were flabbergasted that we'd share a bed with our customers, but those pullout couches are brutal.

I've done this several times with buddies on hunting/fishing trips. Amazing how a guy like me who tosses and turns all night can all of a sudden sleep like a mummy in a tomb and not move a muscle all night.

for golf and guys trips, I have a buddy, no homo, that's always my bed mate... it's because we both roll to the outside of the bed and sleep on our sides. Never touched either during sleep, not a once.

And hell, we even do that in queen beds.

That's a pro of the PNW. Lot's of Natty Forest / BLM to disperse camp for free. We usually head to Hood Friday night and camp in a RTT. Little one loves the entire routine and it limits the stress of driving the Govy 500.

Almost have the wife convinced of a Scout for a ski base camp.

Looks like my drive to work…

Let's all just imagine being in that eastbound lane and having that rig fall out of the sky while mid puff on your vape. No thanks…

We have a Goal Zero + electric mattress heater. It keeps us toasty.

It's just silly for us. I70 has some length that you're in winter driving conditions. PDX to Timberline / Meadows is an hour <4k' and 2 hours to inch 2 miles through the passes. If I do have to drive up same day, I now wrap around through the Gorge/Hood River. It's a little longer, but guaranteed to not deal with Government Camp issues. Bonus, waterfalls and beer in HR.

Just found out our annual ski sale for ANY brand ski is open. They won't arrive until October of 2023 but the discounts are 60-70% off.

Line, Black Crows, Rossi, Head, K2, etc.

Aggie math almost all sets will go for $400-$450 maybe less if it's a $800 or lower factory set.

These are unused brand new skis in the factory plastic.

Last year my Prodigy 3.0s were $381 and my Mana 3.0s were $412 after tax.

Bindings also available but mostly Look (Pvot 15s), Salomons, and Atomic Wardens.

My Pvot 15s last year were $221 but this season should be around $200.

You had previously suggested the Nordica Enforcers (among a few) as something to look at for my trip next year, are they available on the sale? I was really looking to start with just some boots that fit well but if I can get a good deal on skis I'd rather buy a versatile set like the Enforcer 100 than spend more than that renting in just a couple of trips.
Pahdz

Enforcers in a 100 width seem a bit wide for a one quiver ski but I think those in any width are a fantastic ride

I got used Nrdicas or I can order new ones. We do a ton of business with them and Salomon. Probs our biggest 2 vendors on the equipment side.

So just a personal opinion, I think the NE 100 would be a heavy all mountain ski. I ski 97s and 102s and my 97s weight 1825g each @ 180 and the NE 100 weight 2080 @ 179cm. That extra ~15% can really add up.

The elan rs 96 at 180 weights only 1650 (+ or - 50g) and the 106s only weight 1830g. My point being 2080g per ski is a lot of weight and it's not heavier because of the added width it's because of the 2x sheet metal core.

Certain brands are going to weight out heavy when you start looking at extended waists. Off the top of my head, I'd say that most of the drivers like Volkl, Kastle, and Nordica all fit that mold.

Not saying it's not a great ski at all, just saying that it may be a lot of ski if the conditions aren't right.

Is that across the board with the NE or would the 94 be a bit better all around? Based on my research and your recommendation I'm thinking I'll want a 191
JustPanda

I would say absolutely hands down it would it be better all mountain choice.

Agree on the Enforcer 100s. I ski them but more often than not choose my Armada Declivity 92s. Lighter, easy to turn and edge, rip on groomers, fun in the bumps, and do a good enough job when things get choppy. The Enforcers are harder work and are probably a better fit for a younger, more highly skilled skier that pushes hard. My two cents.

Seems like the Enforcers in that mid 90's waist is consistently ranked as one of the top skis every year

If you're ever on the 70 corridor, swing through and I can walk you through all the different skis and what makes them unique and kinda help you establish a little hands of knowledge of various product.

If I make it up that way I'll do just that. I'm going back to Telluride for sure next year and am trying to figure out how to swing another quick trip up in that area also.

Shoot me an email if anyone wants in on the ski or binding deal. The order will go in tomorrow.

I threw in for some Black Crows Atris 184s and Pivot 15 95s. Skis were $419.00 and binding were $221.00. So $640 for a setup that's usually around $1,330.00 before tax.

Some graphics and info to help better understand some of the concepts discussed here previously:

Now ski length is more of a personal feel: I ski 184 97-106 on groomers and I'm 5'8 but I've been skiing for 35 years so take what resonates.

Pahdz

I'm 5'8 and ski 166 Fischer RC One GT 82, but the majority of my skiing is Midwestern groomer man made snow

From last weekend in Park City. First picture is the joy of having a lift 10' from your hotel. Last picture is for anyone that has struggled skiing with kids.

Taking my 6 year olds for the first time for Spring Break. My goals for them in life are:

1) Be happy
2) Be healthy
3) Love skiing

Everything else is gravy. I'm really hoping it goes well. My wife isn't a skier and tjis will be her first time as well.
Something we learned and everyone told us was "you just have to pay your dues" when it comes to kids. Our first trip was a grind. Second trip was a lot better and hoping our third trip this Spring Break will be even better.

Both of my sisters live around Denver so I've watched their kids learn to ski over the last few decades. Fully accept that these next few trips won't be "fun" for me but will hopefully be repaid in dividend when we're bombing together in a few years.

JustPanda, I currently ski Rossignol S3s and love them. They're a 98mm width and do great in all conditions for me: powder, bumps, groomed, etc... They don't make them anymore so what would be some equivalent skis to consider when I decide to buy again?
JustPanda

Black Crows Camox. Rocker camber rocker 97 va RCR 98 waist, 20 vs 23 turn radius at 186 (tighter through trees but maintain equivalent waist and RCR profilefor float), 131/97/119 vs. 128/98/118 and both sandwich wood fiberglass core.

Weight per ski 2136 for the S3 vs 1850ish for Black Crows - so much lighter for skinning or just late day leg knocks.

Awesome. Very similar specs but lighter. I think I would like the smaller turn radius too. Thanks.
