If you're ever in The Valley, lmk and you can slip on a set and see what you think. I personally LOVE them. They're my go to all mountain ski and have been for years. Started w the 174.6 and then moved up to the 180.4s. Unless it's a deep POW day, it's what I ride. Versatile and well made. My current set probs has 200-300 days in them and the cores are still solid and the toe chatter is next to none.

Is the sale just skis or do you have deals on boots too?

After skiing with the rental boots, I think it's time to invest.

I can order boots… do you know what you want?

Not really. I'm intermediate at best and like to just cruise blues.

These were my rentals and not very comfortable and very slightly big.

Nordica sport machine 90r
29.0
335mm

Been reading about the Dalbello Pantera as a good one. I'm off the mountain today so can go into some shops to get a better fitting.

Any recs?

What hurts on them? The Nordica SM run a 102 toe bed. I prefer a 104.

Also, size down your boot. Most boots hurt because they're too big.

I measure a 26.5 and fit a 24.5. I suggest sizing down at least one mondo to where you measure and see how that extra hold along the bed and ankle feels along w the lower profile. If you toes are touching the toe plate but not curled, go smaller until they curl and then back off 1 size.

Dabello is a fabulous company but pricey. I love my Lange. I've been a Lange person for decades. Salomon and Atomic make a great product as well. If I'm being honest, I don't think I could ski a 102 toebed 90r. If you put me in that boot I'd look like a total dumbass. We carry them at the shop and I just can't ride them.

Technica also puts out a great product.

I really think the key is a custom fit orthotic liner and then punching out the shell and shaving down the liner as needed. The hard shell really just grounds the vibrations. The liner is what causes most issues.

When I got a full custom fitting 4 years ago for my birthday from my wife I ended up with the Salomon S/Pro 100. I tried on probably 6 boots that day, these were the first ones I put on and I left it on my right foot while I tried 5 other models on my left and nothing felt remotely close to the way the S/Pro felt.

Hurt above the ankle.

Ok, I'm gonna walk to some different shops in Breck and see what fits and feels best and let you know.

Sure foot at 411 Main St is where id start. They have a ton of hard shells. Maybe also Boot Fixation at 127 Main or Christy Sports.

Don't ask why I know those addresses by heart lol

Went to Sure-footed by chance. Did the measurements. Not sure I ski enough to justify the custom liners, but see where it would be best.

278/282 narrow feet
84mm wide . Narrow heel.

28.5 Lange XT3120 had the best fit in the store.

You could always order the hard shells outside of surefoot and then go in and get the custom liner. Most Lange's are 50% off so I'd probs be like $525ish for the boot and then like $250 for the liner. Cheaper than straight through SF. That's what we do 99% of the time unless we have a homie working that season at SF.
Greeze06

Is it possible to order the boot with the "factory" liner and if I need a custom liner do it later?

My only concern with the Lange boot they brought out is it seems more for expert and I'm definitely more intermediate.

Does Lange make a narrow one like this that is as comfortable (or more) but more for intermediate?

I think you'd look killer on that stack. If your ankles were vibing out in 90r then pushing up to 120 is something you can handle and your joints would probs love. That's almost my same boot but a 120 vs 130. I think you'd love it and it'd probs change your whole ski vibe.

You can call and ask SF just to get it from the horses mouth but I don't think it'd be an issue. We send people their for custom liners/insole a lot.

If they won't then you can take it to my other recs and they can heat mold punch and shave you into a more custom fit w the factory.

Just an FYI, too - I had my last set for 12 years and probs had 1000 days in them + some. If you grab boots and skis and Aggie math $750 for the boots and $600 for skis, you're on a way steelier customized ride than rentals and paying it off in 10-15 days of renting. To me it's a no brainer.

If you buy out some light used demos on demo rental bindings, you're still on a better less used ski than if you walk in a rental shop and reduce that price point by probs $150-200 making the break even less.

And i tell people all the time at the shop that think a ski is too good for them, if you can own a Ferrari, buy it and learn to drive it. It's a Ferrari…"

Appreciate all the info!

I'm not sure I'm ready to do the skis yet. Might like one more year to try some different types and see what ski I like the best.

Ready to do that boot setup though. Do I get boots from you and get back with SF for liner? We fly out tomorrow back to Htown around lunch so not sure I'll have time to go back by and do the extra fitting for liners.

What's best approach?

Universe delivers - I'll call SF today and ask. I'm in the shop all day anyways. I told you its a solid discount.

For anyone looking for bindings looks like Corbetts is running a sale right now. Gonna pick up the Look pivot 14s. Prices show are CAD. Plus no taxes or shipping costs.
JustPanda

That's a solid deal but the Pivot 15s is even better! $16 to upgrade. That's a steal.

Just ordered a set of the 15 95s in gold. That's cheaper than I can buy them w my pro deal.

Telling my friends that just ordered new skis earlier this week.

Hella thanks!

That's a pro of the PNW. Lot's of Natty Forest / BLM to disperse camp for free. We usually head to Hood Friday night and camp in a RTT. Little one loves the entire routine and it limits the stress of driving the Govy 500.

Almost have the wife convinced of a Scout for a ski base camp.

Come on down to Mt Ashland sometime and we'll hit the slopes! Got a 4 yo daughter who is pretty much already outpacing me.

This season has been incredible!

Hah, meet in the middle at Hoodoo?

There's a massive Lithia Park mural for Travel Oregon on I84 when you get back into Portland from Hood. Ashland looks pretty.

Hoodoo or Bachelor. Haven't ever been to Hoodoo but I should since I get 5 free days there with my Ashland pass.

Might get the Bachelor Spring Pass the way this season is looking. Got it last year and it more than paid for itself.

Ashland is a cool town. I like this area a lot actually. Aside from the smoke/fires in the summer.

Shoot I forgot to ping you last week JustPanda...we had an awesome time in Aspen. Only ended up skiing 4 days thanks to work and hangovers but it was rad.

I got some nice fat skis for Friday and Saturday and I finally feel like I have the skill and confidence to truly enjoy powder days now. I skiied powder in Park City in January and my skis were too narrow and I was too scared to bomb through it but it was a great weekend in Aspen.

Skiied Highlands one day as well and I forgot how much fun a smaller mountain can be. Cloud9 to end the day didn't hurt.

Demo'd the Camox's this last week and wasn't sure they were for me. A little too light and chattery.

Frankly, I stick to too much frontside/groomers and just like to bomb it. Ski shop person said I should look into Blizzard Rustler 9's. Still light but has some metal to cut through the chop.

What say ye? I still need something wider for powder days but also enough "all mountain" to hit cruisers. Not sure if both really exists.
JustPanda

Liberty Origin 96s - I think you'll LOVE those from the sounds of the previous post - also you're going to get more chatter at higher speeds on any ski. Sometimes that's just a sign you're ready to ski longer length. The Camox can be soft underfoot though. If you think they liberty chatter then you need to think about extending the length and then reevaluate.

Stoked you're getting to go through the test phase. Early season we can to go out and ride new sets each run for 2-3 days in a row. It's probably one of the best times of the year. Plus they give you 6 drink/beer tickets a day.
