Another log on the fire for Leavenworth. Beautiful german town that is beautiful during the holidays. We went right as they were setting everything up. No snow on the ground yet so bright, beautiful, sunny but chilly days.

I'm a german food/beer/aesthetic junkie. Being there when decorated for the holidays was a bonus.
I've been living under a rock, and only heard of this town in the last year.

Now, I'm obsessed with planning a trip there around Christmastime.
You need something else beyond the town, though, to make it worth an actual trip.

You'll cover the market in an afternoon. And if you haven't booked something yet, good luck. You can try Wenatchee, make the drive and fight for parking.

Steven's can get gnarly, even in December. We're back in La Nina, so woot for more snow!

I love Leavenworth. We're there in two weeks to needle peep the Larches in the Enchantments and Colchuck Lake. But personally, the Village of Lights is gaudy, so crowded and not our jam.

We're back
We booked a snowmobile tour last time we went. Highly Highly recommend! Absolutely gorgeous classic PNW scenery.

If you are looking to travel 7-10 days before Christmas, consider Whitefish, MT. Always in the top 10 "top Christmas towns in America" lists.

ETA - the airport you would fly into in Kalispell is small but nice. When we went a couple of Decembers ago, the rental car dude met me at the gate with the keys to our car.

Can you share links to those Top 10 lists? I can't find any that mention Whitefish/Kalispell. The closest I can find is either Big Sky or Bozeman.

And I am seeing what you are seeing about it not really being on any lists right now....maybe it has fallen off since 2021.

It is ranked 27th on this one: https://www.purewow.com/travel/best-christmas-towns

Most of the Christmas-y events take place 7-14 days before the 25th so we were on the tail end of it but it was still decorated and stuff.

Hah! I think it's so different from my side of the Cascades! That's why I like it so much.

Just left Leavenworth (Oktoberfest) and staying the night near the Enchantments. Again, you'll walk the main Bavarian strip in 15 minutes. You need something else to make it worth the trip (ski, snowmobile, ice climbing, ski tour, etc).

Honestly, Leavenworth is a rockstar right now in the fall (itself and proximity to Larches / Alpine Lakes wilderness). So much color! I'll never do the Christmas Market again.
