Anyone have any info on this new resort? It appears to open this November? Looking at the website it appears to be a pretty good option for families an pricing seems decent for summer 25'.

Does anyone also know of any other new AI's opening up this year, or next?

It does look like it will be pretty neat. It originally started as another hotel (Paradisus) but construction was never completed and SLS took over. It says it will have a kids and teens club, but doesn't go into a lot of details yet.

Nothing new that I know of that is kid-friendly.

Haven't heard too much about it other than it will be kid friendly as well.
I really like the SLS brand so hopefully this will give a good option in Playa Mujeres.

I always try to wait and stay or book clients for a little while after they open just because of all the kinks that new resorts usually need to work out.

AVA in Cancun just opened this summer and it looks to be pretty nice, except for beach area but I think the draw there is pools. The same brand owns UNICO and Hard Rock All-inclusive properties.

I also can't wait to see Secrets Playa Blanca -- I have clients going in November but curious to see how they are doing and if it's going to be a good option in the Costa Mujeres area.

Grand Velas Boutique opened in Los Cabos a little less than a year ago and it is top notch! Their family friendly Grand Velas resorts are favorites among my clients so this adults only, all-inclusive option is going to be great for that area.

Any recent news/reviews of SLS Playa Mujeres? The Google/TripAdvisor reviews seem good, though I'm not sure how reliable those are. Most poor reviews seem to stem from the opening months, and I take those with a grain of salt.

I'm curious how the beach there will be in summer. It seems that it could be shielded a bit by Isla Mujeres, and there is some kind of rock barrier 100 feet out or so (or at least shows on Google Maps). Anyways, curious if anyone has any feedback on this property.

Most reviews in the travel agent group are good. Someone posted a pretty scathing review earlier this week, but all of the comments were "we had the exact opposite experience". Main complaints were that butlers aren't very good, kids older than 10-12 may be bored.

Some were upset that some of the higher end rooms overlooked a parking lot.

Happy to help if needed, email is in profile.

Sargassum this summer has been BAD. I'd suggest anyone coming to RM be Alert.

I wouldn't be spending money to come here w what the beaches have looked like this far this year.

Worst sargassum season I can remember and it's only supposed to get worse.

Where, exactly, have you been seeing it bad? We were at Playa Mujeres in February and it was clean. I don't doubt that it will be bad this coming summer, but curious if the northern areas will be a bit better off.

It's been bad all over. Cancun has already pulled more Sargassum thus far this season than all of last season.

I meant to copy and paste a long review yesterday, but another one came up today. I personally know the travel agent who shared this information. It's long. But this is the gist I seem to read with others.

The pros:
The cabanas are well done, the decor and the adults-only areas are chef's kiss. Loved the booth style seats in various pools you can sit with friends (like you would in a booth at a restaurant, but in water) drink cocktails and chat. So many loungers in the adults section and tons of beach loungers for families on the beach. The beach itself is lovely! I think they did a great job with the common spaces.

The mini bar in the suites have cans of Pringle's (regular and cheddar), full bags of Oreos, skittles, KitKats, MnMs and nuts, refilled everyday. Gatorade and cappuccino "juice box style" drinks in your room along with the regular sodas and beers and juices is more than I've seen at any all-inclusive. The soap and shampoo were lovely scented and I enjoyed using them. Thick large bathrobes and towels. Love me some upgraded towels and robes.

I booked all our dinner reservations before I arrived using their website. They had all of them correct. I'm glad I did this because people were being turned away trying to just walk up at peak times. I also booked a cabana via concierge email before I arrived and they charged me for it at check out. I requested at the waterslides and they honored that request.

Their kids program was very good. Large indoor space, lots of outdoor space, and a cute covered sandbox area with slide. It's nice to have covered options for blazing hot days. It's also next to the water slide/splash area, so they take the kids to play in the splash area for an hour everyday. They will also take the kids to lunch, which is a plus. Some kids clubs have you pick them up for lunch.
The sports bar and after hours area is so large and they have plenty of TVs for watching games for the sports fanatics.

Nightly entertainment was actually geared towards kids when we were there. They had a "science show", "dinosaur show" and "bbq karaoke night" for the nights we were out and about. There were tons of kids, but it was spring break so makes sense!

For the most part, service was what I expect in Mexico: People happy to guide you to what was happening during the day. Happy and helpful hostesses and bartenders. Very clean overall.

The Cons

We could not believe how disappointing the food was. Because I've read so many friends reviews (which I believe wholeheartedly and totally trust ), I told my husband I will have to go back in a while to see if this was a fluke. Because it was just so so strange. Nothing had flavor except for Caracol (Mexican) which was our best meal. Tacos were great here! The buffet was ok not the best not the worst. Plenty of variety and lots of fresh fruit. Italian restaurant, risotto was not cooked properly, it was crunchy. My soup tasted like water, the pizza was super soggy, almost mushy and cold. It was just bizarre. Steakhouse restaurant we ordered filet mignon. It was indeed not filet mignon. The macaroni and cheese had no cheese. Like, we were laughing because it was as if they just forgot it. Everything was beautifully plated and presented, but didn't taste like what it was described in the menu. I'm still just kind of baffled, something was just off.

Drinks were hit or miss. Margaritas would be decent at certain bars. Golden Hour and Twiggy were the best. My husband said the house merlot was undrinkable so I didn't even try. I stuck to sparkling wine or a Carajillo in the evenings.

I saw so much wear and tear it made me nervous! It's so new and things were already needing repair. Kids splash pad was missing tons of tiles, slides starting to rust on the exterior. Rust at bottom of pools. Baseboards in our room were coming off in the bathroom as there was a flooding problem with the shower. It flooded our first night and I saw the soggy baseboards hanging on for dear life. So I'm sure we weren't the first ones to have this happen. I made sure to keep towels against the shower to keep the water from seeping out.
Wifi was terrible on sunday. Just that day i was not able to do much of anything on my iphone and iPad which are my work devices. Funny because I also have an android and so does my husband and thatf worked fine. All other days, wifi worked ok. Not super fast though, which im not use to encountering at these resorts! But i know it happens.

Will I go back. Yes absolutely. When I first walked in I was so obsessed. I wanted to really love her! I think if my food experience had been different, I would have overlooked the other minor imperfections. It is a great property if you have families who want something aesthetically pleasing and in a safe gated community with a pretty and secluded beach. I think they may have been overwhelmed with Spring Break maybe? Idk. But I'm willing to give her another shot!!

Thanks for posting. Interesting review of it all. One one hand, it is new...but at the same time, it has been open a few months now and these things should be getting worked out by now. It makes me wonder if they'll be ready for summer travel.

My wife and daughter are currently their and have been all week. They said they love it. Place is immaculately clean, lots of staff, good food, excellent rooms (they are in the elite section whatever that means), and they have been at the beach everyday with no complaints. She said we're definitely going back do I can check it out.

A couple of updates/comments from wife and daughter after being there a week.

Sargassum - yes, they said there are area where you can see it accumulated in the ocean, but the resort ground crew were constantly cleaning and attentive to it. They said it was a non-factor for them.

The adults only area was very lightly attended since most groups were families. So the adults only pool and swim up bar was amazing and service was outstanding (as was throughout the entire resort).

Kids - there is something to be said about the kids ages. My daughter is 17 so not old enough to get into the adults only area, and also wasn't allowed on any of the water slides and other kids activities (there was an age limit that was below her). Also said evening entertainment like karaoke was pretty much dominated by younger kids.

Food - Said the food was excellent. Grill/bar service on the beach was top notch and attentive. Said the Italian restaurant and mexican restaurant were great, but the star was the steakhouse. By far their favorite.

Hope this helps

The prob w sargassum is that it's a health hazard. Even if it's just floating in the ocean, it's very very unhealthy to be around.

Well, that's not good!
