Too board. West F***ing Virginia is one of the most beautiful states, but I won't want to live there. Ditto with Montana. Iowa is far from beautiful, but there are some nice places to live and raise a family.

Jersey actually has some nice parts. Kentucky surprised the heck out of us when we lived there. We would strongly consider moving back to Louisville.

Why does Louisiana get a bad rap?

Cajun food and culture
gambling
New Orleans

All these states suck far worse than Louisiana:

Delaware
Montana
Wyoming
Mississippi
Arkansas
Nebraska
Kansas
North Dakota
South Dakota
Iowa
Alabama
West Virginia

No better or about the same in uniqueness, etc:

Georgia
Kentucky
Tennessee
Maine
Connecticut
Ohio
Wisconsin
Washington
Oregon
Utah
New Mexico
Missouri
Indiana
N and S Carolina

I'm tired of naming states but Louisiana is arguably more fun, unique, or more to offer than all of these states. Yes it is a poor, uneducated, badly run state. But that's not all there is to living or visiting somewhere.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I prefer lush greenery, trees and flowers, and the tropical climate of Louisiana to MT and WY's dreary, snowy, open spaces.

They've got snow skiing. Louisiana has water skiing.

Not to mention there is nothing else fascinating besides nice open spaces and mountains in WY and MT. Do they have gaming? I can't tell you 1 special food that comes from there or that they are known for. And they certainly don't have the industry Louisiana has, or the amenities for modern living.

If you think that Louisiana is in any way, shape or form better than Tennessee or North Carolina, you have problems.

If you are speaking culturally wise, Louisiana is where America's most important cultural contribution to the world originated.

Duly noted. If I was a jazz musician in the early 1900's, I would much rather live in New Orleans than in Tennessee or North Carolina.

Im sorry Nise- but yes. I have been here since 1997 and am still going through culture shock! Traffic here is terrible, drivers are even worse, and those horrible accents! I mean there is NO SUCH PHRASE as "Dun Gone" and the town of Santa Fe is NOT pronounced "Santa Fee". I HATE that. The people here are some of the nicest people you will meet (the older generation), but I am like " I like you, I mean no offense, but do not talk to me until you learn the English language". I certainly don't speak the Queen's English, but at least I can conjugate verbs!

And whats the deal with horse shows booking up hotels but not college graduation? They don't have their priorities right here...

Then there is also the whole "Pac-man" Jones lunacy. Thats a whole new rant but He gives the original game of "Pac-man" a bad name

I would say Jersey, but I like the western part of the state and they gave us Bruce Springsteen.

Nevada is another candidate, but they have Vegas and Reno.

Ol Jock, sorry buddy, but Kentucky left a bitter taste in my mouth, despite Louisville. I'm voting Kentucky in a close win over Arkansas.

Consol - I wholeheartedly agree with the traffic and drivers!!! I recently took a road trip to Indianapolis and the WORST part of the drive was just trying to get out of Nashville. I actually had a girl cut ME off (I literally could not see her back bumper as she whipped in front of me) and then flipped me off for... what? Following a semi with about a car length between us and not knowing she wanted in my lane despite (a) no blinker and (b) her lane was wide open ahead? I was baffled and pissed and REALLY glad to get our of town. But I digress... for now.

But on a similar note, the most bizarre thing to me is the road system. WHY is it that in so many places you have to exit right to go left, and left to go right. (ie Briley) Up here in La Vergne, they are putting in a new shopping center and theres a really random circle in the parking lot. Why? I have no idea, but its confusing as hell... and theres only three stores open in there so far! There is NO NEED for a circle, but... there it is.

The way people talk around here, that riles my husband up. For me, it just amuses me... I've been picked on plenty for my Texas accent since moving here, so I bite my tongue most of the time. Even if most of the time, the way people talk makes their IQ level seem to drove 50 points.

Pac-Man Jones is just silly. And Nathan Bedford Forrest's statue out on I-65... That just makes you shake your head and make you wonder if the civil war is really over? I miss H-E-B and Whataburger!! Oh and tax on groceries just sucks.

But, for all its faults, I love how at least Nashville is such a melting pot of people. I actually have more friends here than I ever did before. There's great live music every night of the week for free. And no matter which direction you go, you're guaranteed a beautiful drive. There's the Smoky Mountains and Elvis on each end of the state. Oh and there's no state income tax.

So, on a whole... for me, personally, the pros outweigh the cons. But... that's just me. You're mileage may vary. LOL

You can choose your place of residence your way, I’ll choose mine. Needless to say Louisiana isn’t the poorest (certainly not by natural resources and revenues, not the lowest by median income either), isn’t the worst educated (in ranking of public schools or in % of population highest degree attained), and “badly run” is subjective, but not prohibitive (Many other states are poorly run or have bad government aspects).

In fact, Texas loses to many states when put to those same criteria.

So why is it the greatest state? Because Texas has other things to offer like culture and food and climate and scenery that others don't have. And that’s why people love it here. My point is Louisiana has much of the same to offer, unlike all those states I mentioned.

So go live in Connecticut. It’s well run, you’ll make a ton of money, and the schools are great. I’d take Louisiana 8 days a week.

Nise- I see we agree on alot. The gorcery tax does suck big time. The cost of milk is high enough- then you add tax on top of it? sheeet!

The roads are crazy mazes here- they have to have major intersections within 2 carlengths of each other! How dangerous is that? And driveways into businesses right on or maybe a foot from the intersection. Talk about accidents galore...

What I hate WORST about tennessee roads is they twist and turn so much and dont get you where you need to go. So many streets here in Murfreesboro dead end or end in culdesacs., when the road you need to get to is sometimes just a few yards away!. very aggravating. In Texas, all roads are in normal grid form and if you need to go around an accident, more often then not there is a very convenient way to get around it without having to drive 5 miles out of your way. Not so here in Tennessee.

BTW Is Nise your last name? Is Charlie from Channel 5 your husband?

I mis HEB and Fuddruckers!!
