I would have to agree with the Louisiana posters. I lived in Austin until I was 13, then moved to rural southern Mississippi, just across the border from Slidell/NO. Lived there through high school then back and forth from Slidell to MS for several years afterward before I made my way back to TX. Never got over the culture shock...still shake my head when I hear high school classmates talking. My poor mom taught high school English in our district. What a nightmare. They had no reference point! And when deer season opened, better than half the class was "sick". Yes, that was Mississippi, but it was even worse in Louisiana.
