Any idea on the buyer?

Flywheel

Wow… They are throwing around some money!

I'll be in their office next week - we are very involved with them on the marathon OK asset that they just closed

They have a sponsor with a lower cost of capital than your typical private equity backed team, so they've been very competitive and aggressive. I personally don't think they're built to on board/manage this many new assets at once, but we'll see.

Who is their sponsor?

But that is caused by regional factors? Local supply outstripping local demand due to continued oil drilling in the Permian that produces the associated gas and pipeline bottlenecks.

And the Trump administration's deregulation of the permitting process should make it easier to build midstream infrastructure and reduce those bottlenecks?

Limitations to gas takeaway are more metal and financing than regulatory.

Because of the near limitless natural gas potential of the Permian, natural gas diffs will always be trash in the Permian and the value will always be on the midstream side for that commodity. There will be brief moments of green shoots when infrastructure is built and then it'll fill up and regional prices will collapse again. At best, once oil rich plays are fully developed and oil production starts declining it'll eventually be like Marcellus diffs.

Baytex sells Eagle Ford asset for $2.3 Billion -WOW that's high - anyone know who got it?

Baytex Energy is exiting the U.S. Eagle Ford by selling its assets to an undisclosed buyer for $2.305 billion in cash. This strategic move will refocus the company on its Canadian operations, which include heavy oil and Duvernay plays

Didn't they buy this asset two years ago for $2.5 B? Sounds like the only ones who made money on these deals were the lawyers and bankers...

Correct. Bank of America. From one of its bankers that I talked with:

"BofA sold the Eagle ford assets (Ranger Oil Corp) to Baytex in 2023 and now they ultimately divested the same package."

With this sale, BayTex will end its U.S presence and will be focusing on its western Canadian operations. Another example of midstream companies divesting non-core assets and decreasing their geographic scale to focus on core infrastructure

The legacy Lonestar assets in that sale are now on their fourth operator in four years.

It used to be Kayne Anderson through its Private Energy Income Fund, but they exited last June 2024. At the same time, Gunvor Group, a multinational commodities trader in natural and liquified natural gas, bought a 41% minority equity stake in FW.

Partially correct. Flywheel is backed by Stone Ridge, formerly Wincoram. I believe Gunvor is a minority investor.

Some of the South Wind executives used to be a part of the Flywheel team, but they left and partnered with Kayne. Ironically, Kayne and South Wind were also in the second round of the Baytex process.

Do any of yall work in offshore asset risk management? I've been out of O&G for a couple of years but my current industry has me thinking about a potential business opportunity back in O&G. I'd love to pick someone's brain for a few minutes if anyone is willing to talk.

Shoot me an email, username @ hotmail

I'm not intimately involved in RiskMan but dabble enough in it along with hazard analyses/safeguard assurance to probably give some insight that may be helpful.

Anyone following Recon Africa and their new onshore Namibia play? Sounds like they might have a discovery on what could be an ultra large position in northeast Namibia. Zagros style fold belt play with massive structures

Stock symbol is RECAF

Lots of action since the announcement at 9am

They will keep drilling it at $4 also. I think they are drilling up and down 79 in Leon and Robertson for years to come.

They've punched a lot of holes along 79. Hell they were steady drilling when gas was $2.

They came to us back in '23 when we were about to exit high temp M/LWD ops in the area and offered to put our ultra high temp tools on retainer plus footage rates and pickup fee plus agree ahead of time on over temp charges because every well was in excess of 200-205C.

Probably the first time we ever made money in the Haynesville. I never once saw where they disputed damages/repair charges. They basically said we're gonna drill this and we don't care what it costs

Jerry just dropped another $1B in Comstock to finance this; it's probably going to be his final legacy project in O&G so I doubt if he's as concerned that it's very profitable as long as it's productive.
