I aim to make $100 in my little option trade this week. A healthy improvement from $37 last week.

At some point, I want to get to a point where I can reliably make about $5k a week. My friend does that, he backs it up with a good amount of cash.

I used to have this same fantasy and quickly lost a ton of money with delusions of grandeur.

I would tread very carefully. As in, you should maybe do this for 5 to 10 years before you make that your weekly target.

agree with LawAg...

and I would say at least wait 5-10 months...or at minimum, continue to play small through the first major drawdown the market has...which I believe should be somewhere inside my window...that major drawdown will really tell you about the amount of risk you should be putting on for short put plays...

I would just invest in options trading ETFs. About $60k or so buys 10,000 shares of ULTY yielding about $1000/week, for instance. It's a lot less work than making the trades yourself, and it's a good supplement to invest elsewhere or use as needed. It's like an additional salary.

Standard this is not advice and yes there's risk involved. It's just what I would do.

Like clockwork for the opening 2 hours -- BRK.B with a new local high, promptly giving it all back.

At this point it either goes sideways all day for a small gain or loss on the day, or the odd exception (like the last 2 Fridays) which is to blast all the way back up for a new high.

CRWV - Tracking a potential ED into the [c]=[a] that lines up with the 38.2% retracement of the post-IPO low to ATH that would bottom around $97 range. If so, could get a quick rebound by the end of August back to $135-$146 region.

Jokes aside. Going from little to no knowledge on generating income via options to $5k a week is a lot. You're going to have a lot of money at risk. Look into "The Wheel" strategy and get comfortable with the strategy. Then dive into the greeks so you can better understand how prices will move and risk/reward. A good amount of people run this strategy and you'll be able to learn more on Reddit, Boggleheads forum, SeekingAlpha etc.

Many people recommend the YieldMax etfs, I think the JEPI etf is great for those seeking income and equity exposure. You may want to look at private credit options with the amount of money you plan to hold as collateral for a derivatives income strategy.

Thanks for your reply. I am not looking to get to $5k right away, it may take me months or years. I may never even get there, but it is a goal that I have - something to shoot for.

I only risk what I am okay losing and won't change the course of my life. I understand where you are coming from, there are many who become homeless by risking it all to hit the jackpot. I have been in the market since 1999 and have had several wins and several losses so I am experienced with the stresses of it. I just do vanilla options, nothing fancy with the goal of making a very small amount just to see if I can do it.

I do ETFs a lot in my other account but this adventure is for me to understand options and see what I can do with it. I am not risking the farm by any means!

I will look into the information you have above.

Point taken!
I know I will experience roadbumps but at this point, I am just enjoying the experience of making $100 or so a week. If I do that well enough I will try higher bets.

Tariff fatigue just going to ignore it?

I have no idea anymore. Seems like when we have good news now, not much happens. Everything seems like it's already priced in and just tariff fatigue lingering. I hope we rip and rip the hell out of it. But just not sure

Agreed. Sure seems that way based on today.

TACO is apparently priced in. Tarriff news don't seem to be moving the needle much anymore like back in April/May.

How many shares are you wanting to buy right now? And how much of a total investment are you interested in making in this stock? And is that a considerable amount of your account value?

I encourage you to search for POWL in this forum and spend a few hours reading posts going back 1.5 years on this stock. That should help you gauge current pricing, history, trends, etc.

TLC made a song about this in the mid 90's.

But, for grins:

You can sell a Aug11 635 put for 4.75. Ten contracts gets you $4,750 in premium, 20 contracts gets you $9,500...over a 2 week period, that averages out to close enough to $5k/week. You'll be tying up $1.27MM for those 2 weeks.

Then you'll have to rinse and repeat regularly.

I wasn't that expecting that kinda report and AH movement from $CLS after the run it's been on since April. That's one to definitely be a buyer of once is comes back down.

If I knew what stocks were going to do before they actually do it, then I'd have never gone to A&M, known about this thread, or live in Texas. I'd make Elon and Bezos look poor. I'd also never get married again. My private island would have plenty of hot scantily clad women on it too.

now to find out if you've learned from this thread...

what are your plans to keep this massive winner from becoming a loser?

sell half and be net free on rest?

sell all and move to next one?

sell CC's on some or all?

set some stops at 80% gain so you have a great return even if it drops and you don't have to babysit...and if it keeps going up you're good and can move up stops as needed?

or diamond hands?

I know I personally need to employ the CC strategy way more than I do. I don't know about yall, but with options, sometimes I just trick myself into thinking I'm doing something wrong and am about to lose the farm...even though I've done it plenty of times.

Read trading in the zone. Try to apply it. Then read it again until you understand how to gameplan and control those emotions.

ITS VERY HARD. Most are not capable.

Been screwing around with 5-10 delta CCs on 1,700 shares of MSTR since December. Up ~$30k so far. Had to roll out/up for losses in late April and early July when I was caught offside on upside volatility or I'd be up closer to $45k.

Switched from 4-5 DTE to 30-40 DTE after the last one in July that hurt quite a bit and its much smoother sailing. I just roll the 30s to 40s. Switched from FBTC to IBIT recently to start selling calls on those shares as well (liquidity on FBTC is pathetic).

Still haven't messed around with puts at all but adding that to my toolbox soon.
