Cane's was pretty full at lunch today.

Ordered the Caniac cuz I hadn't had breakfast.

It was the same as always.

Didn't pay attention to price cuz I'm not poor.

I've been tracking flights to Chicago for the Marathon in October. They were hovering around $260, recently jumped up to $310, then back down to $260 for a few weeks, now they're at $210.

That said, we were talking about taking a week or so trip to Turks & Caicos. We looked up the prices and just laughed, will probably be doing a few days at the Hyatt Lost Pines instead. The little one is 1.5 so don't think he'll mind the change.

I've flown HOU to MIA once a month for the last few months, and the roundtrip flights on Southwest have never been over $200. The same ticket is now over $400 with a single nonstop flight offered each way every day.

It seems part of restaurant inflation is from passing along the cost to customers of reprinting menus every week.

Waxing services are an inflation *ahem* hedge. The household budget will go up to pay for them.

DFW to LAS (Vegas) is about $600-$650 roundtrip on Southwest now for nonstop when booking about 3-4 months out on non peak travel days and about $450 on the very early or very late flights. Used to be $200-$250.

No different than flying out Friday and coming back Sunday.

Every time we go to Lost Pines or Hill Country Hyatt I tell myself a week in the Caribbean would've been cheaper

Excellence Playa Mujeres is only 380 a night right now. Thats is easily be the best place per dollar spend on an adults only, beach sitting, swim up bar vacation. As the exchange rate keeps improving the dollar, those one dollar tips per drink keep going further and further down there.

As an inflation anecdote, I've had a reservation booked for about 7 months now. Usually the rooftop terrace ocean front view is the first thing off the list when trying to book. For the time frame I'm going, I just checked whats still available and thats the only available option remaining. Incredible.

To me that screams everyone is either A) trying to pack into the cheapest rooms first B) There are also still people how are going all out and renting the top top tier honeymoon suite thats even more expensive than the ocean front terrace.

Yes, I know that this hotel has like 1000 base level rooms, 20ish rooftop terraces, and 4 honeymoon suites but the premium stuff always goes first. Before COVID, but after Zika fear faded, I couldn't get the room I wanted regardless of when we set the dates.

Opposite anecdote - Corpus Christi must live in its own multiverse where inflation doesn't exist.

You can get a room at the Omni downtown for $160 / night. That is kind of insane how cheap it is considering it's probably the nicest hotel down there. My brother is paying $250 / night in freaking Lufkin at a motel.

Wife and I are at the Four Season Anguilla. I booked back at the first of the year with a 5th night free deal. Anyway, this place ain't cheap, especially food and beverage. There are lots of what I consider younger couples here who seem to be buying $15 cocktails and $90 tequila shots with pretty much no concerns. I am trying to understand where the inflation bug is around here and what most of these folks do for a living.

To be fair, Four Seasons tends to sort of attract people who don't care what their cocktail costs.

I'm interested in what happens in the short term rental / AirBnB market over the next 6 months or so.

Awesome, we were there a few weeks ago; recommend the lava shrimp at Sunset Lounge.

I'm waiting to buy a couple of these when opendoor, offerpad, etc. go belly up because they are overlevered.

Have I tried to use it? Why yes, I just paid $11.20 for my wife's round-trip ticket last weekend to Denver.

I have so many points from the sign-on bonus for the SW CC that my trip was the same cost.

I still have 100,000+ points left and the CC is good until Dec '23.

Until we start seeing recession-induced job loss on a national scale, I don't think consumer spending will tighten. Saw a report that all Americans that were planning to vacation this summer aren't changing their plans or lowering their estimated spending for those vacations
They must have either just accepted current hotel/resort rates as the new normal or made reservations some time ago. Because I've been planning vacation for us the past two weeks and the lodging rates I'm seeing everywhere are categorically insane.

Hilton has bogo free points right now ans if you book 4 nights on points you get the 5th free and some hotels are much cheaper when booked with points for so e reason.

So... What would I do with a companion pass when I'm traveling alone?? And for the S&G I checked SW round trip from Richmond VA to Sacramento CA... And the cheapest was $1300+... And I would have to drive 2 hours to Richmond. And get a ****ty middle seat in the back of the plane.

I will go ahead and stick with AA... Been flying them for over 15 years and occasional upgrades are nice. And if and when I need to use the companion pass, I will.

The original argument was that they don't work.

If you've been traveling with them that long and don't have points you're doing it entirely wrong

How does a companion pass work when you aren't traveling with a companion?

How does buy one get one free work when I don't buy one?

How does a discount code work if I don't buy anything?

How does free shipping work if I want in store pickup?

How does a frequent flyer program work if I only travel once a year?

Buy an $11.20 ticket for your companion.

Travel alone.

I like recessions because it's trendy to pretend you are poor and struggling. I see we have started the trend earlier than usual this time around. You guys could have waited for at least some more unemployment impact.

Here's a good one...my BIL was at Pak Pow (thai restaurant in Design District in Dallas) and if you order a bourbon on the rocks they now charge you $4 for the ice!!!!! He asked his server how in the world that is ok or if it was a mistake and the server told him, "That's just kind of a thing in Dallas now."

So, order it neat at Pak Pow.

It's not that uncommon for bars to charge more for on the rocks as neat is typically about 1.5 oz and OTR is 2.

Never heard of that. Part of his complaint was that he actually got less booze with rocks. Shrinkflation and higher price.

Double whammy.

Yep, and I'm not saying it's not a smaller pour for more money. I was just saying it's not all that uncommon for a rocks pour to cost more (and me a larger pour).
