Yea it just seems anecdotal that the more you job hop the higher pay you have and right now pay needs to go to up

If playing the job hop game, I've always thought 2 years is a good length of tenure per job. Shorter than that and people will assume you were pushed out. But 2 years provides enough time to get settled, achieve a few things (mostly implementing some changes, systems, etc) but not long enough for the potential downsides of whatever you have done to kick in. If in a job for 5 years you'd have to actually start cleaning up your own messes without the ability to blame someone else.

Overall I'd say I agree. But I feel like some companies are trying to change that. My wife makes more than I do and has been with the same company for 12 years, major IT corporation. A few years ago they did a market check and gave her a 25%+ raise. Got 10% last year.

Now we've talked and the cynics in us as thought it could also be because she's a female and this international corporation wants to throw out the pay of their female employees vs male. Which still isn't a bad thing. But they've also encouraged all their employees to get on fish bowl and people talk about their salary pretty openly on there.

I work for a small business, but my boss doesn't think we don't talk to each other about our pay. I've gotten significant pay raises on a percentage basis but I also started off with a very low salary for a college grad. I make below average still honestly which is why I'm thinking of leaving. I had a whole track laid out for my career and such but every-time I meet a goal or whatever my boss tries to find a way to not keep his end of the deal. I'm pretty fed up honestly at this point. End of rant

No, the only thing positive I would say about my job is that I have flexibility when taking off or if I need to leave to run an errand. Other than that I don't have many positive things to say

It's still a job seeker's market. Worth looking at your options and sharpening up those interview stories

So it has been a historical job market for employees and you are not happy with your job but you aren't even sure if you want to switch? Sounds like you are perfectly fine to accept the status quo so long as you can complain about it.

No one wants to see someone complain about their life when the person complaining is unwilling to do something about it. If you need motivation to get up, get out and get something else, well, this is it.

not hedge, i recommend at least interviewing at a few places to see what you could get. this is the time to do it. i was in the same boat. blind loyalty to your first employer. its not worth it in the end if you are not getting what you want out of the deal.

The problem with this is that you don't have a problem with compensation exclusively. You have a problem with how your employer approaches compensation. You may solve the first at some point, but you're unlikely to solve the second.

You don't want to be somewhere that forces you to twist their arm every few years. It's just not worth it.

And, not to sound cliche, but if things ever pivot and it benefits them, they won't hesitate to cut you loose. All those years of loyalty and staying despite them not looking out for your best interest will have very little, if any, role in that process.

I've come to that conclusion last night, sucks but it is what it is. He wants all the glory and pay, fine. But he can take all the work I do for him now as well.

Something to think about with the recession word at the tip of the tongue; Last one in first one out is a thing (LIFO), and the new guy always gets a higher salary than the vets which could be an easy target for a layoff even though you just started.

You are actually questioning if corporate ESG is helping your wife get promoted in a STEM field? The answer is, "absolutely yes". Where have you been hiding that you haven't noticed this already? I've seen it going back to the 80's.
