I guess this is more of a rant against Amazon fulfillment.
I ordered some books awhile back and what arrived was the wrong set of books by the same author. No problem, I initiated a return and they arrived a few days later, except it was the same set of incorrect books. Returned both sets and attempted to review the product. Of course I gave it one star since it was a completely different item than what was represented in the listing. Amazon rejected the review since it didn't pertain to the content of the item, but instead I was directed to the seller to give feedback.
Ok so i review the seller warning others to not buy the item because you would not receive what you thought you were getting. Amazon rejected that review as well and gave me some baloney about "Amazon Fulfillment" bring responsible for the error. This left me with no way to communicate to others that Amazon was allowing bad listings.
I found the books I wanted in another format and placed another order. the order contained items represented as new, definitely not in any other used condition. Quickly I received part of the order in brand new condition. However the last part of the order was delayed a few weeks.
By this time I figure out one of the books is not in print and basically ONLY available in some variation of used condition by looking at B&N and other book sellers. I finally get a notification from Amazon the book shipped but when I go back to my original order confirmation, it has been updated with a used book listing rather than the listing for the brand new copy I KNOW I ordered.
It's not worth wasting time getting placated by some customer service cretin so I am just sharing my rant that Amazon is still capable of stupid mistakes on their end.
TLDR:
1) Amazon fulfillment coordinated two incorrect shipments to me and left me with no mechanism to call out their mistakes.
2) Amazon will absolutely substitute used products for you without giving you a say (other than cancelling the order) and cover their tracks by updating your order invoice with the product they are sending you rather than the product you originally ordered.
I've seen this on my most recent order for some shoes. Placed an order Friday for delivery Monday. I look at the order details in my Amazon account (browser not app) and it says the condition is "Used - Good."
No way in hell did I intend to order used shoes. Keep in mind this is ordering through the shoe brand's storefront.
Based on some Reddit posts, it looks like the scam Amazon is running now is to connect you with products that are used and have been sent back for return. Then you order what appears to be a new item until you either look at the invoice through a browser or get your used item delivered. Absolutely nothing in the iOS app shows this is a used product.
