Despite all of his success at A&M, the program is now back to where it was before he took over.

It is time for him to retire, but I don't think any of the first 3 posts are entirely accurate.

And yet the last three NCAAT trips reached the S16…perhaps you're wrong.

I blame the administration and specifically the AD. Same for Childress. This is business. Blair has had a cheer leading group in the community for years. Friends are friends and business is business. This is business.

Agree A&M is a multibillion dollar business. Have to do what's best for the organization. And right now, they are doing what's best for Blair, resulting in a regression. Other big ass companies are passing us up, like TU and LSU. Not a fun ride to be part of Blair's farewell losing tour

The drop in talent level is what's so surprising, in just one year no less. Plus the team looks to be in terrible shape. It's gassed by halftime and gets run off the court in the 2nd half. The only thing left is to find out if the underclassmen can get some playing time now to see if they can actually contribute next year or will the new coach have to overhaul the whole roster and start some scratch? Otherwise the quality of play we see now is not even worth watching and that is shameful!

I don't see the purpose in slamming Blair at this point.

Firing/forcing retirement of a hall of fame coach, when he is the only reason the program has had any success EVER, and is consistently producing good teams is exactly how you destroy your candidacy pool. These coaches for the most part are all friends. They talk. Treat someone like crap and you'll get crap in return

Fussing at how we got from point A to point B. We are currently not a winning program and not even a top 75 team. So keep trying. Your points continue to avoid the overall point being made by knowledgable ags.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall anyone in this thread or any other thread calling for Gary Blair to be fired at this point. I think the frustration is that after the 2011 national championship and the loss of some important assistant coaches, the yearly top 10 expectation for this program has not been sustained. It seems like the difference between camps here is that some seem to be happy with a good program that performs well sometimes, above expectations sometimes, and below expectations sometimes, versus those that believe the program should have consistently become more and more prominent after a national championship run. Has our program been good? Yes. Has it been great, comparatively? I say no when compared to other programs that consistently win conference titles and make much deeper runs in the NCAAT than the sweet 16. Others believe it has. So while I am thankful for what GB has done for our program in the late 2000s and early 2010s, I do believe the program has not sustained the sort of relevance I would have liked to have seen after 2011. Losing good assistants, not recruiting well, losing key transfers, etc, have hurt us. If we consistently won conference titles then I would have considered GB great; because we are consistently the 3rd-4th best team in our league, I think his time here has been good/above average. And yes, GB is great compared to what we had in the past, but that really shouldn't be the benchmark for our program considering how low the bar was set before he came in.

So for clarification, if the next coach coming in does not push us beyond what GB has built, then I would consider that a failure. My expectations for the next coach would be to push beyond sweet 16 runs and win conference titles consistently.
