Joni said they've been struggling with injuries this fall so it's been hard to find an identity and flow throughout these practices leading up to the season

2 girls out of practice and you can't even run a 5v5 lol

Same story every year - the staff needs a complete overhaul. She hired all the same people, that come with zero chops. She'll most likely be fired at the end of this year, is my prediction. Maybe that's too harsh, but that's what I'm betting

I thought they had male practice players.

And how is a random male student going to help our girls work on timing, cohesiveness, spacing, feel for one another. It's not, if you can only run one side with 5 girls at a time to work on things together then that's very inefficient, thank to roster management by Joni Taylor

Do you think there will be more than 1,000 people at the home opener? Hopefully she doesn't bash the student section again

Umm…so…the male practice players aren't scrubs. Often could have played mid-major level and tend to have length or very good ball handling. Not saying I know who they are this year, but it is fine to give the team competition that resembles what opponents can bring,

But it's not a second group of 5 GIRLS WHO PLAY BASKETBALL FOR TEXAS A&M WOMENS BASKETBALL TEAM. We can run 5 on 5 drills only 5 at a time because we don't have enough to practice with a second team because our coach couldn't add anyone else.

Forget our poor roster management, inability to run proper practices, or lack of depth, we got male students to fill in the spots during practice time!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the concern!

In one of our closed scrimmages against another team we only played with 6 girls and with 7 in two other scrimmages

How are the male practice players going to help us in these situations

I wish I could be there, but will try to drive up for a few games! I just wonder what the attendance would look like, it seems like the quietest and least anticipation for a women's season that I could remember

We aren't even receiving votes in the preseason poll, which includes 50 teams. I know they are preseason rankings, but women's basketball tends to be somewhat accurate for the top 25 respect.

Kentucky is going into year 1 with a new coach and has a roster that can compete. We are lucky to have a roster that can finish a game healthy and not in foul trouble.

One year, I could understand. Jimbo was lazy with the fitness of his athletes and it cost them big time. Buzz Williams takes it seriously and he has relatively healthy teams throughout his tenure.

I question their workout programs and the focus on the body itself. Nutrition and wellnesss is a huge question mark I have for this program. How many times last year did we see Janiah struggle just to get up and down the court…. It was literally every game after one 3-5 min of playing
Ag4eva95
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not to continue the negativity train…..

Looking at 2025 recruiting, there are no Top 100 girls committed. Majority of the top 100 is already committed and the ags aren't on the radar for anyone decent really. You need a mix of transfers and freshmen. Not saying you can't build a roster with transfers, but that is a quick fix. You can't build a program like that. Plus, Taylor didn't bring in anyone of great impact this last window, so the future is not bright. After AC and Ware are gone, this team is in deep ****
Aceswimmer09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
She is coasting, Taylor is riding the gravy train and Olympic and national team involvement. There should be no reason you can't recruit to atm with how coach Taylor carries herself. This points to laziness for her and her staff
Ag4eva95
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The fact she is an Olympic coach is questionable. I have yet to see her earn that accomplishment

I hope she proves us all wrong this year. There does seem to be a lot of emphasis put on love and joy and what they can accomplish outside of basketball. That's all good stuff but are we focusing on growing and winning inside of basketball at Texas A&M also? I don't know? I want her to succeed so badly, but I fear she doesn't seem to want to be here. Is her husband still in Atlanta?

I am not some great personal friend of Joni and her family So, I don't have all the details. And I can be critical of our play, but I think it is over the line to make something which you know nothing about - their family life - part of your criticism.

They both have great jobs in basketball. Fortunately, their seasons do not overlap. The WNBA season is now over as college basketball begins. The next big event for the WNBA is their draft in April (kind of nice to be scouting in the business your wife is in). The WNBA regular season doesn't begin again until mid-May when college basketball is over.

I don't go looking for Darius at our home games, but see him often. You will also see Joni or Darius parents here at games. One or the other is almost always in town helping with their family and grandchildren. It is actually a pretty nice story about family how they keep it all together and manage it.

So week 1 we start with 10 girls, no team goes the entire season with an entire roster healthy every game. So then we'll be down to 8 or 9, if another gets a minor injury and/or another fouls out. 2 are coming off season long injuries in Jada Malone and Kyndal Hunter and haven't played in a year. We will be in deep deep trouble and in an absolutely embarrassing spot much like year 1 if luck isn't on our side. So she's had two off-seasons to add girls and add depth but has failed in doing so. Of course she's going to say she likes a small roster because she has one. Every year at Georgia she had 13 girls and one year 14. We can't just sit here and be comfortable our coach failed to recruit more players and isn't using all her resources and scholarships to build a championship roster. She loses girls in the portal, has a horrible recruiting class, and doesn't replace what she lost in the portal! I love this team and I'm going to support them every single game, but it's still awful to see the roster management by Joni Taylor.

I'm not saying it's not admirable, but it's not ideal, and I'm sure a huge strain on the family. Good for them for trying to make this work. Their relationship might be working but her coaching successfully at Texas A&M is not working.

This team will be better and do better than last year's squad. We're definitely going to shock the conference this year, and some fans too. These projections are also NIL-funded/directed media coverage.

Aicha Coulibaly & Lauren Ware are going to be one of the best duos in the SEC. Leading scoring and rebounding. https://texags.com/forums/58/topics/3495434 - check out this thread, Aicha Coulibaly's highlights from last season. When she becomes the scoring priority, no one can stop her, example: South Carolina & Nebraska games in March last season. Coulibaly & Ware will be in WNBA stock mode this season!

Kyndall Hunter & Sole Williams will lead the way beyond the arc. Sharp shooters! Kyndall Hunter opened her college career (at tu) with a 27pt 7/8 from 3 performance. We all saw Sole's potential shine last season, expect an elevated game across the board this year.

Sahara Jones is going to have her career-best season, as the most experienced Aggie on the team. Her experience (4 years of SEC play) will be huge down the stretch!

Janae Kent is going to make Kim Mulkey devastated that she left NILsu. Did you know Janae holds her high school free-throw record shooting 25-26 in one game? Insane accuracy!

Taliyah Parker will end the season on the SEC All-Freshman team. She's a baller! Anyone who has watched her play knows she is a dangerous player to face.

Vanessa Saidu will give us our first Aggie dunk in team history. She has amazing length, we could have one of the strongest defenses in the nation this year.

Jada Malone & Amirah Abdur-Rahim will be some of the best paint coverage in the entire conference. The rotation with Malone, Abdur-Rahim, Ware and Saidu is going to give constant presence inside, and make it challenging to post up/drive.

Eria Moon will be a clutch PG in many crucial moments throughout the season! Her handles and passing are excellent. I assume she learned a lot her first year observing/learning from the bench while recovering.

This team is now officially underrated by the conference/media, but I think it will only fuel the fire, and they'll use it to their advantage. Let's be the 12th Man for our Aggies this season! Thanks & Gig Em

uhm… at least you were right about the preseason projection being wrong

Just so happened to check TexAgs haha, love the recall!

I will ALWAYS hype up my Aggies, and I don't take any of these words back. I know this team always had more potential (example: Kentucky & Ole Miss wins & what could've been that LSU game had Aicha not gone down). Aicha's injury was heartbreaking, Taliyah's injury was heartbreaking, all injuries this season were. I'm not regarding to any kind of excuse, I'm thinking as family. None of us will ever know what it was like to be an athlete to battle through a season like this. We need to turn off our devices and reconsider our communicative dynamic with Aggie athletics. It's starts within our own mental framework. Are we reflecting outward criticism we hold inwardly toward ourselves? You are powerful, do you realize it?

There has to be an end to addictive negativity like it is doing any good. I so hope these ladies never looked at this forum throughout the season, but it's hard to imagine that is the case. Every athlete knows TexAgs. It breaks my heart to think our team would see their own 12th man identifying them with poisonous language. Especially DURING the season….you can talk staffing/whatever all you want out of season.

Maybe start a diary if you feel the need to obsessively point out problems, criticisms and validations to prove you are right? It literally doesn't benefit the team at all, it only strengthens the self-sabotaging BAS. This isn't me saying we don't have the right to be upset, frustrated, or whatever, but is it NECESSARY to type it out for the whole world to see on a 12th Man website? Just thoughts for the future. And this is actually speaking to all of TexAgs, this site has to change its patterns…..everything we complain about amplifies with our fixated attention. Negative energy will never attract the success that we ALL want. The 2011 national championship was my freshman year at A&M, there's literally no better feeling in all of sports. We ALL want more nattys.

As Einstein said "where focus goes, energy flows". That's physics, which is the field I work in (quantum physics). There's actually a physics to fandom in how we observe & emphasize. You may think that's crazy, but pro athletes are catching up to this too….I don't know how to say this but the future is going to look A LOT different than everything we have known. And with that is a new found understanding of who YOU are. Take this from an Aggie who works in future systems. Refer back to this in 5 years hahaha.

This is my season closing post I guess. I'm not upset at anyone, just bringing some balance here. You are all AMAZING because you are part of this incredible Aggie family, and because you are you! You are in this world with a powerful purpose.

We need to reconsider what it means to be the 12th man.

These ladies are part of the AGGIE FAMILY. I'm proud of each of them for coming to the greatest university on the planet.

You are all capable of so much more than you have ever dreamed or imagined. I feel like this is probably new territory for this website I'll be working overseas for the next several months and will not be on here, so better now than never!

Love you 12th man,
Thanks & Gig 'Em

PNW - welcome back. I can appreciate your assessment and opinion. I agree there are times we become overly emotional/frustrated and negative. This is why most clubs and coaches require a 24-48 hour rule before connecting. However, this is a forum for the fans to discuss, vent, praise and I don't think there is any forum in the world that is full of sunshine pumpers. You said something that I do relate to and want to emphasize. These athletes chose to come to this school and represent our university…and it is for that exact reason that they deserve better. Better funding and most importantly better coaching. Outside of loving Joni as a person, she has clearly failed this program as a whole in terms of basketball development and results on the court. We can debate injuries and NIL until the cows come home, but Joni is responsible for the roster and roster management, recruiting, program growth, etc. Her first 3 years would be graded (IMO)… year 1 - C, year 2 - B-, year 3 - F. Again / the athletes deserve better, the university deserves better. Surely the AD is having serious conversations with her now about her future and if she stays they are setting goals and expectations for year 4, but at a bare minimum I would expect her to be on the shortest of leashes moving forward. I pray she rights the ship and turns this program around. We all want her to be successful here! There has been no indication that that is happening.

Has the program sunken far enough yet to consider looking at replacements. It's an Aggie tradition to bury an athletic program before beginning to look for a coach and start the 5 year rebuilding program. Aggie ADs are clever that way.

To Joni's defense, it wouldn't take 5 years if she could swing big and attract some incredible transfers in to the program. I can accept that we were unlucky with injuries in year 1 and 3, but losing your roster in year 2 to the transfer portal is very concerning to me. And I have to imagine that the transfers we did attract would not be great salesmen for the program based on results. Joni is in a very difficult position right now. She has to swing for the fences in the portal and pray.

according to posters, she's returning for year 4, so seems like Trev Alberts and this administration are content with dead last in the conference
