If you want a laugh (at the absurdity) go to the ESPN app & look at the play by play of the game - while it shows A&M winning - the PBP shows VCU winning AND the 'percentage of winning' graph shows VCU winning (they may correct it eventually)

I did not get to watch the game. Can someone give an assessment of how we played? Was the team we played a decent team?

Pryor looked amazing as usual. Ware has taken on more of a leadership role in helping run the offense. There definitely seems to be more structure this year offensively. Janae Kent looked really good finishing at the rim. Fats rebounded with authority.

The ugly….. this game was actually close majority of the contest until the start of Q4. We had many many dumb fouls. A few where we literally just pushed the VCU girls down. We could not stop them at the rim, and there really wasn't a reason. We just didn't contest. This game should not have been that close. Lots of missed free throws and easy bunnies. We made a few 3s down the stretch, but outside of Fats 3 to start the game, we didn't touch rim on the first 8-9 3s. It was rough

From what you saw, is this a defensive effort issue? I saw they had one girl that scored 24 points (looks like she averages just over 21 per game). Unfortunately, it looks as if free throws are a problem for this team early in the season.

No, it's not an effort thing. I'd same it's a communication thing. We consistently missed easy switches. Girls tried for steals on passes they probably shouldn't have, which led to finding the open shooter quickly. Pryor intensity helps get every body on the same page. She is legit. We just missed switches or left girls wide open from not knowing who we are defending. Honestly it's hard watching Ware defensively. I know she's coming back from injury, but girls who at 6ft can easily post her up.

I will say this. VCU is not good

Re: Ware: Do you think it's an effort not to draw too many fouls? We don't really have any experienced size outside of her and it seems she is trying to alter shots but not draw too many aggressive fouls. She also seems to guard the taller posts much better. The smaller quicker posts give her a bit of trouble.

Looks like we pulled away relatively comfortably in the 4th (although doesn't appear we finished well in the last 2 minutes).

I want to say yes, but if you saw the fouls Fats and Ware committed, that voids that opinion. Ware just looks soft down low. It's hard because we don't really have a low post presence. We cannot score down low easily. Losing Malone hurts cause she actually could post up

Kent looked really good, I was impressed with her. Made smart decisions as well.

Fats fouls way too much. Reminds me of Barker. Need her on the floor more.

4-0 GIG 'EM

Something about these island gyms/holiday tournaments, I feel like it takes time to get into a scoring groove. I've noticed for the last several years - during these games high ranked teams often score below their average & play surprisingly close games. Definitely some stand out stats, excited to see what we do in the next two games!

The discoveries/implications have completely shattered all of my paradigms haha. There's a method to my hyper-optimism. BAS is just Stockholm Syndrome lol - I think this year's football season has exposed that.

Started well; leading 19-16 after 1. They have a girl that has scored 10 points in the first quarter.

I feel like everyone we play makes 3s like the bucket is 18 feet wide.

Not a great half of basketball. So many fouls, so many easy baskets given up (we will need to work on defense because currently we look lost), and went 0-13 from behind the arc, shooting a 32% for the half overall. Bigs are in foul trouble (Ware with 2 and Parker with 3 fouls in 3 minutes on the court).

The positive? We lead 30-27.

At half Aggies leading 30 to 27 without hitting a 3 and shooting 50% (6 of 12) from the free throw line.

I watched Q2, the fouls are just dumb. Our girls don't understand the defense. It's not a unit, it's a bunch of individual efforts.

Are you watching the second half? This is even worse than yesterday. Our defense is terrible

This whole game is ****ing embarrassing. We deserve to lose. But do you see what I'm saying about Ware though?

I know the season is young but you cannot have a div1 team shooting 50% from the line. That's just unacceptable. Even early in a season.
